Did you put the information in with Family Historian or did you use Ancestral Sources? If you used Ancestral Sources you will need to report the problem in the Ancestral Sources forum.
In the mean time have you tried restoring a snapshot from prior to the problem?
|
|
I added the census details via Ancestral Sources.

Make sure you are using the correct version of Ancestral Sources for Version 7, you must have Ancestral Sources 7.
If you are on 7 for both and still have a problem you need to report the problem on FHUG.

Victor, There are several oddities about that Exception Report. None of the 2 _SHAR lines has a @I123@ link to an Individual record as the Shared Fact Witness. The _FAMC should be FAMC and that explains why the Family as Child links are all broken. There was an error reported last month that involved FAMC and PEDI/_PEDI tags that was never resolved. I suggest you preserve as much evidence of the errors as possible, i.e. Exception Log and GEDCOM. Mike Tate

I am using the correct version of AS havin g downloaded the
latest verson. I had used it yesterday and things worked normaly
as it always has in the past. When I added the census details of a
person and saved it FH then opened at that person as t always has.
This mornong it didn't. It opened at the root person (i.e. me) .
Just did a check on my details. All the images I had on there have
disappeared. In fact all images on every name have all gone. All
this is in the FH Project which I always use.

I have just done another check. This time checked all the names I
worked on when adding the census details v AS. I found all those
names have disappeared. There were 6 of them.
Sorry I don't have a clue what to do about FAMC and those other
references you mentioned
I will keep the exception log.

This is looking more like an AS V7 problem that should be reported in the FHUG Ancestral Sources Forum for Nick to investigate. AS keeps backup logs of the GEDCOM file prior to each AS session, so you can use them to recover. However, it may be best not to change anything until Nick has had a chance to investigate. Mike Tate

Nick Walker (Ancestral Sources)
_FAMC records would certainly not be created by AS so something else must be happening here. If you do think this might be related to AS then please discuss with me Victor either via email or on the AS forum on the FHUG site. This mailing list is a Calico Pie mailing list and Ancestral Sources isn’t one of their products so I don’t want to upset them by discussing it here. Remember that AS keeps a backup copy of your entire file every time it saves an entry. Thanks Nick

Thanks Mike
I have exchanged information with Nick Walker and he has helped
to sort this out but I had to use my backup gedcom file. The file
I ended up with after using AS turned out to be about a quarter
the size of the origianl file. Thanks to the back up it has now
been fully restored minus the names I had added since the back up
(about 2 weeks ago). These names are not directly related to me so
is poblem.
Nick said the problem was not caused by AS.
This just hows how importamnt it is to do back ups. I will better
due this more regularly.
Thanks to Nck for help in sorting this out. I wouldn't have had a
clue otherwise.

Which problem, Mike? CP have referred Victor to the FHUG forums for AS support. I logged Victor's original 'import' problem and I know they asked for a copy of his gedcom to investigate.

Thanks Mike
I have exchanged information with Nick Walker and he has helped to sort this out but I had to use my backup gedcom file. The file I ended up with after using AS turned out to be about a quarter the size of the origianl file. Thanks to the back up it has
now been fully restored minus the names I had added since the back up (about 2 weeks ago). These names are not directly related to me so is poblem.
Nick said the problem was not caused by AS.
This just hows how importamnt it is to do back ups. I will better due this more regularly.
Thanks to Nck for help in sorting this out. I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise.

I have just done another check. This time checked all the names I worked on when adding the census details v AS. I found all those names have disappeared. There were 6 of them.
Sorry I don't have a clue what to do about FAMC and those other references you mentioned
I will keep the exception log.

Victor,
There are several oddities about that Exception Report.
None of the 2 _SHAR lines has a @I123@ link to an Individual record as the Shared Fact Witness.
The _FAMC should be FAMC and that explains why the Family as Child links are all broken.
There was an error reported last month that involved FAMC and PEDI/_PEDI
tags that was never resolved.
I suggest you preserve as much evidence of the errors as possible, i.e. Exception Log and GEDCOM.

Nick Walker (Ancestral Sources)
Just to clarify that I didn’t actually say that AS wasn’t the cause of the issue, I actually said that it seemed very strange because I’d expect an error message or AS to have crashed but that it did point to something like that happening. Victor’s file only had about a quarter of the GEDCOM file saved. I’ve not had any problems like this reported for many years as far as I can remember and I can’t really see how AS would do this. The good thing is that AS backs up the GEDCOM file before making any changes so it was very easy to copy the file over with no resulting loss of data. Best wishes Nick

Victor had a similar problem on 12 Dec 2020 also involving many _FAMC PEDI error messages. See https://groups.io/g/family-historian/topic/78917784 “FH V7” topic. So is there an inherent problem in his GEDCOM or is there a bug in FH? Only Calico Pie can determine that, which is why I suggest reporting to them. Mike Tate

Yes, but Nick thinks it is probably not an AS problem. I did not know that earlier problem had been logged with CP and investigated. How would I? However, that problem and this problem have remarkably similar symptoms, so maybe together they might pinpoint the problem.

Victor, it would be very helpful if you could contact CP via http://support.calico-pie.com/open.php with this latest information, and supply a copy of your Gedcom before it was migrated to V7 (if you haven’t already done so).. There’s clearly something odd going on that needs sorting out both for your own benefit and the benefit of other users who might have the same problem. Helen

Victor That would imply that you didn’t do a backup before the migration to FH7 I must admit that having been using a family history program of some sort or another for over 30 years (I started with PAF version2!) when there were only 13 facts! And no sources!!! I now make sure that when I migrate to a new version I copy the entire set of projects into a brand new set of folders and migrate the new ones to the new version leaving there old pone there just in case. On top of that there is a backup copy of the final FH6 file that stored separately and never touched Mind I spent my working life in mainframe database and backup was always the key especially working in the finance industry Disc space is cheap these days and your data can’t be replaced that easily Regards John Hanson - researching the Halstead/Holstead/Alstead names Researcher, the Halsted Trust - https://www.halsted.org.uk Research website - https://www.halstedresearch.org.uk 2021 Family History Conference - https://www.elizabethanancestors.org.uk

It may not be relevant but I just discovered another problem related to FAMC tags. Both BIRT and ADOP facts allow a subsidiary FAMC tag to identify parents. In ISR and Family Group Sheet the Address of such facts is listed twice. That happens when both Addresses and Notes are enabled lower left, which is the default. I plan to report this to CP separately anyway. Mike Tate

Unfortunately I didn't have a copy of V6 before I upgraded Victor Victor, it would be very helpful if you could contact CP via http://support.calico-pie.com/open.php with this latest information, and supply a copy of your Gedcom before it was migrated to V7 (if you haven’t already done so).. There’s clearly something odd going on that needs sorting out both for your own benefit and the benefit of other users who might have the same problem. Helen Yes, but Nick thinks it is probably not an AS problem. I did not know that earlier problem had been logged with CP and investigated. How would I? However, that problem and this problem have remarkably similar symptoms, so maybe together they might pinpoint the problem.
