Display of "name suffix" field in diagram boxes
Bill Klecka
I have used the "name suffix" field to identify the generation of people with the same first and last names. For example, "Sr." and "Jr." or "I", "II", "III", and "IV". However, when I create a diagram containing these individuals, the suffix doesn't show up after the person's name. How do I get the suffix to be displayed? This is such an obvious thing to appear in a genealogical diagram that I'm astounded it doesn't happen automatically. I've looked all over without success for an option that might control whether this field is displayed or not. Could someone please help me here?
By the way, I'm using Family Historian Version 6 on a PC running Windows 10. |

Not 100% sure as I don't use such suffixes, but Go to Diagram menu>Options Text Tab Click "Edit Text Scheme..." If you drop the Name Format box that by default says 'Full' you can see Suffix and Suffix (full) Do they work? Best Wishes Neil.

Yes, as Neil says you can edit the text scheme for the diagram. The full steps are: Diagram>Options>Text tab The text scheme you are using will be selected by default. Click Edit. In the next window in the pane on the right select the Name item, then click Edit at the bottom of that pane. In the next window click the <<Insert button to the right of the Template field. In the Data Reference window expand Individual (by clicking the box with the + sign in it) then expand Name and you will see options for :SUFFIXED or :SUFFIXED_FULL . Select one of these and click Insert. Click OK to close successive windows.

Instead of using the Name Suffix box simply add the suffix after the surname in the Primary Name box. e.g. Ian Stephen /Munro/ Sr. Then it appears everywhere by default in the Focus Window, Diagrams & Reports, etc. Just make sure it is after the closing / that terminates the surname.
