Installing plugin
Nick Attoe
I have downloaded several of Mikes plugins from the store. When I run them, FH6.2 opens with a warning window, click to clear this – then another window appears saying “Error has occurred, cannot install “...” as a plugin. Can anyone help me to find out why this is happening.

It could be a permissions issue with your program data folder, try copying them manually into C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian (assuming Windows 10) On Fri, 15 May 2020 at 09:20, Nick Attoe <nattoe@...> wrote:

Nick By default, you won't see C:\ProgramData on any flavour of Windows, as it is a hidden folder. To reveal it, open (assuming Window 10) File Explorer, then go to the View Tab at the top You can either a) Tick 'Hidden Items' in the 'Show/Hide' section. b) Click Options > Change Folder and search options, then click the View Tab on the Window that opens, then click in the radio button to 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' When you now open your C drive, you can see ProgramData Best Wishes, Neil

Nick, Are you running the FH free 30-day trial version? The only feature that version does not support is Plugins. Regards, Mike Tate

Co-incidentally, I have just downloaded the "Show Project Statistics" plug-in but I saved it (as I always do with any downloads) into a separate Download folder on my PC. I then just double-clicked on the file which fired up FH and I was then told it had been installed OK. Admittedly, to get it working I then had to download the "Write Reg IE" plugin which again installed OK from my Download folder by just double-clicking on the plugin file. Regarding the "Statistics" plugin - I gather it can say how many people are in each Pool but it does not seem to work with Version 5 - is that correct ?? (FYI I've stayed with Ver 5 as I still occasionally use an old XP laptop when I'm out and about which (I understand) cannot handle Ver 6). Many thanks Brian However, when I first tried to run it I got an error message and when I clicked through this I got the On 15/05/2020 09:23, Jane Taubman wrote:

Brian, The Show Project Statistics Plugin should not need Write Reg IE Shell Version Plugin except to display the Help & Advice pages. Pool numbers are not supported in Plugins in FH V5 as stated in the Help & Advice page for the Records Tab. Unfortunately, the end of your posting has got truncated, so don’t know what error message. I have a fully paid program. I have followed Janes advice and put the downloaded file into the folder, but when I try to open the file, I still get the same response. I am using windows 10 and FH6.2.7.

Might not need to be run if it's placed in that folder? Try from FH Tools>Plugins to see if it has been added. Best Wishes, Neil

....it does! I've just tried this, so no need to click on it to run it, FH looks in that folder for Plugin files. :-) Best Wishes, Neil

Nick, In these debugging scenarios, it would be really helpful to give as many details as possible. e.g. In this case post the full path of the folder copied from the top of Windows File Explorer. It should be C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugins\<filename>.fh_lua
Not to be confused with C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian
Once the Plugin is in that folder, it is installed, and does not need to be opened. Just open FH and use Tools > Plugins to see all installed Plugins and Run them.
