New FH user. Any advice on best way to work with Ancestry.com?

Maybe not "best", but my way is to use both Ancestry as Family Search as working-draft trees. Yes, I accept hints and chase shaking leaves with abandon. :) My FH tree is reserved for my solid data - the things I've proven to my satisfaction.

So I don't often exchange GEDCOM data. I carefully add the records I choose into FH one at a time, as I evaluate them. Then I update the FS/Ancestry trees with the good data, in order to get better hints.

I also use FH as my Master Database. For integration and syncing I have tried many programs over the years. Legacy 9 (Not that User friendly and too 'American' for me), FTM 2019 (I found it flaky and clumsy to use) and more recently RootsMagic7 which I am using now and very much like the simplicity in its integration design. The sync feature for Family Search - Family Tree is probably the best I've seen. And the Tree Share to Ancestry works very well and is fast. I am still working to understand the Import Gedcom File > Merge process to figure out the best way to keep FH and RM7 aligned but so far very pleased.

I do something similar, in that FH is the premier database kept on the cloud (as well as local hard drives). Ancestry and FTM are sync'd so other media and 'draft' new family members on Ancestry can also be stored on my hard drive. Thanks for the steer to the FHUG forum on this. Terry

There’s a lot more about the approach using FTM at https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:exchanging_data_with_ancestry_ftm, With links to discussion in the FHUG forum.

I do something broadly similar but using RootsMagic Essentials which is free.

I work on FH being my roote family file. I also have FTM where I copy my FH details to from time to time (to show the up to date FH file)

FTM gives me the links to Ancestry which I use a lot. Ant new information I fins I add to my FH details

I understand FH does not automatically synchronize with Ancestry.com.  Would you share some best
practices on how to integrate it with FH?  For instance, do I have to import a new GEDCOM file every time
I have a new change on Ancestry?  Or is there a simpler way?  And when I do import a new
GEDCOM file, how do I avoid merging duplicate information?

Thanks so much for your help!
