Thanks so much! I use FTM for synching with ancestry.com now. I treat ancestry.com as the master for now. I will experiment with the other way also. On Mar 16, 2020, at 04:21, Mike Tate <post@...> wrote:

There is a way of ‘synchronising’ FH with Ancestry by exporting the GEDCOM file to either Family Tree Maker or Roots Magic that offer tight synchronisation with Ancestry. That way all updates are performed in FH as your master database and propagated out to FTM/RM and Ancestry. If you are interested there is advice in the FHUG Knowledge Base and Forum discussion threads. Regards, Mike Tate

… My main challenge is integrating with ancestry.com. So, i think that i will use more than one program. One to interface with ancestry.com and probably this one for family tree diagrams and this reporting which is also pretty good. Integrating with Lua for plugins is exciting. I'm probably won't get that far, but i'm a software engineer, so i might try! |

As your one page will be a pdf, that one page can be large, so is there a need to try to manipulate the people into a small area? A pdf can be zoomed in so legibility is not normally an issue.

Thanks so much for the lightning fast responses. I do not want to interfere with anyone's weekend! This is becoming my hobby / obsession ....
For me, it's mostly the printing that i want to be on one page, so the pdf approach could work for me. I will take a look at the forum. Re-reading the documentation is helping me. I'm not sure how forum attachments work differently than this, but i will take a look. I think that the family historian smart tree is the key thing that is much better than the other programs that i have tried so far. The reporting is pretty good also. @Peter
Do you wish for the one page to be printed on paper, or to be viewed as a pdf file on a computer? Trevor |

In your previous posting, you said width was a problem. Using the Movement Control Box and Box & Bar controls the lower rows can be moved right so they sit under the upper rows. Regards, Mike Tate

There are many features for adjusting Diagrams to fit onto a certain number of pages. Take a look at the Diagram > Options and where many options can help. General tab Orientation and Scaling Print tab Orientation Portrait/Landscape Dimensions tab minimum settings
The Diagram > Enable Moving/Resizing command opens the Movement Control Box that allows various adjustments. See Getting the Most From Family Historian Chapter 9. Setting the Style, Layout & Content of Diagrams
The easiest way to print onto one page is Diagram > Save Diagram As > PDF File (.pdf) and accept default options. There is much on that in the FHUG Knowledge Base ~ Single Page PDF of a Diagram https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:creating_a_single_page_pdf_of_a_diagram However, a large diagram with small text font may be illegible. You may have to compromise with fewer Individuals included, or fewer details in each box, or accept that two or more pages are unavoidable.
If you could post some screenshots there may be some quick workarounds we can suggest. Although these Emails allow images, it may be easier via the FHUG Forums.
It is quite a complex topic with lots to discover.

Hi, i have read the manual and searched youtube for videos.
My diagram is too wide. Obviously, i want to minimize the number of pages (I want it to fit on one) and have the text within the boxes as legible as possible. Right now, my chart is too wide. There are some rules that prevent things from overlapping. I'm not exactly sure what those rules are. Can i break those rules? Is there a command to scale it to fit into one page? Thanks! Peter |
