Error children

Does FH not warn you when you have children that's birth date is earlier than the mothers birthdate.
Was working on my project this morning and found two CHILDREN who was born before the mother was?? |

When you first enter a birth date in FH it will warn you if the
date is too early (or too late). But if you have created a
project by importing a Gedcom file which had been created
elsewhere and it already contained those errors it will not issue
a warning. However there is a Plugin written by Mike Tate called Show
Project Statistics which can check for many kinds of errors and
produces an exception report. It would pick up those impossible

You can also use the standard Fact Date Warnings Query to view any dates outside your preferences. |

Shamefacedly - I'd forgotten that Date Warnings query was there. But be warned that neither the query nor the plug-in are built to cope with every possible circumstance. For instance, from possibly fallible memory, the checks on ages of parents don't distinguish between biological and step or adoptive parents where what's dubious for biological parents by date, can be perfectly fine for step-parents. I spent some time working with the plug-in and systematically checked each type of error, cleaning up quite a bit. After I had either cleaned up or effectively accepted all issues of that type, I then excluded that check from the plug-in's parameters and reran the checks. Please note that while it would be possible to upgrade the logic of the plug-in to cope with step and adoptive parents, that was just an example. In other cases, it's much more difficult to decide what the algorithm for checking ought to be, so please don't think that I'm criticising. |

Pete, If you have imported a GEDCOM or imported directly from another product then there is useful advice in the FHUG Knowledge Base. Some advice is specific to the originating product, but other advice is generic and applies to most imports. That advice includes the Show Project Statistics Plugin and checks for Uncategorised Data Fields (UDF) and unusual Date fields not handled by FH. Whilst it shouldn’t have been changed it is always useful to check the preferences – Tools / Preferences And make sure that the first box is checked
