Sudden closures

Why does my Family Historian keep suddenly closing down without warning when I’m in the middle of something? |

In general FH is very stable. Does this happen at a specific point, for example when viewing a diagram? If you provide detailed information about when it closes it will be easier to narrow down the cause. If it's closing when you view a diagram and you have a Samsung laser printer, download the drivers for the printer from Samsung, as the Microsoft ones have a bug. I have had the same problem after many years with FH. It seems to happen when the webbrowser is open and in particar when transfering data from Ancestral sources. It seems not to happen if the website I am using is open outside FH so I think it might be something to do with the web browser embedded in FH

The browser embedded within FH is the Internet Explorer Shell so unless the external browser is Internet Explorer it is highly unlikely to interact. It is not likely to interact even if you are using Internet Explorer which I strongly advise against. Try re-installing the latest free download of FH v6.2.7 as it may have been upset possibly by Windows Updates. Regards, Mike Tate

Does it happen to be in the place or address data windows?
First things first, when is the last time you cleaned cookies and temp space, and rebooted?

Hi,
I have experienced this problem occasionally. It only occurs for me when:
When I re-open FH everything works fine (until the next time). I just wonder whether there is a memory leak somewhere? Just a thought, I have no evidence to support it. Regards, Phil Young

Thanks Phil. I’ve been seeing the same thing but hadn’t joined the dots. Pauline On Sat, 14 Mar 2020 at 17:08, Phil Young <phil@...> wrote:

Phil & Pauline, Can you please explain in more detail what you are doing. Are you saying there are 50+ records to review for one person all in the same Web Search Window? Or are you going back to the Focus Window and opening hints for another person? I this latter case usually a new Web Search Window is opened so you will be accumulating many open Web Search Windows. Unless that is you have changed Tools > Preferences > Workspaces to allow re-use of the Web Search Window.
Have you tried using the External Web Browser option?
If it really is a solid fault then it needs reporting to Calico Pie.

In answer to your questions: The 50+ records are distributed across several people. I am going back to the Focus Window and opening hints for each person in turn. But I close the Web Search Window after dealing with the hints for any particular person, so only ever have one Web Search Window open at any one time. I haven't tried the External Web Browser option (yet). At the moment the frequency has been at the level of an occasional inconvenience (easily recovered from) and that happens unpredictably. Prior to using the Internet Data Matching fairly intensively, I had never experienced the issue. Best regards, Phil Young On 14/03/2020 18:18, Mike Tate wrote:

That’s pretty much my experience. I get carried away following up collateral lines and then it starts to work more and more slowly until it stops completely. Pauline On Sat, 14 Mar 2020 at 21:35, Phil Young <phil@...> wrote:
