Select a Source and use View > Record Links from the menu to show the records which use the source.

If you want to drill down deeper (to see the Facts which cite the Source) select the Source and run the Plugin Where Used Record Links.

I'm trying to find all the records based on a source.
But tools > work with data doesn't do that.
Is there an easy way?

I wish there were a right-click option from sources to ... records used.
As with places. Feature request: right-click to "where used" for a place or source.

I'm experimenting with TNG. Looks good, thanks for the suggestion.
The only problem is that the media (from exported GEDCOM including media) is not visible

How to add the marriage of a couple who divorce then remarry each other

Anne Algar

I'm hoping someone can help with me with an event I've not come up against before.

I have a couple who married in 1935, but then I find them getting married again to each other in 1959.

It would appear that on divorcing from each other, the man married another woman, but presumably this didn't work out and they also divorced. He then remarried his original wife. How do I enter this 2nd marriage of the same two people in Family Historian - I can obviously mark their first marriage with a status of 'Divorced', but it's entering the second time they marry each other that has me perplexed.

Any help would be much appreciated

Anne

Re: Places or media page possible?

Paul Tanner-Tremaine

@Keith Taylor.  I keep all my info in FH. I make a copy of my gedcom, rename it and work on that copy and I use split tree helper with a query to remove privatised info, lists etc.  I then use the Export Gedcom file plugin with all the settings I prefer for TNG, which is an option in the plugin. Then import that resultant exported file as the import to TNG.  I try and refresh the website about every 2 weeks with any new info that I have,  Works like a dream for me and has done so for at least 14 years!

Re: Places or media page possible?

Keith Taylor

Hi Paul, Great website! I even found 'my' Bourchiers in there. I used to use TNG a long time ago but have forgotten how I updated it. Do you export the Gedcom file from FH, or is there some other method?

Hi Sue,

Yes, a similar question was asked last month as “How to copy an ID record”

See https://groups.io/g/family-historian/topic/76758395 and follow advice to use the ‘Clone Any Record’ plugin.

Good Morning

Is it possible to duplicate or copy an individual in Family Historian, please?

It may seem a stupid question but I was stupid enough to merge three of my one-name study Familly Historian projects into one without checking the results carefully. I then deleted the original projects before discovering that the merge resulted in individuals who should not have been being merged into one.

I am working through the results but it would often be easier if I could duplicate an individual before selectively deleting events. Is this possible?

Kind regards,,

Sue

Re: publishing

You cannot add pages to a standard Individual Summary Report as it uses what it needs.

What sort of pages do you want to add?

I don’t understand what you mean by you ‘have run out of space’?

Perhaps you mean the report is longer than 1 page and you cannot find the 2nd & 3rd pages?

Next to the Page number, in the top right corner, click the two black triangles that step back & forth through pages.

Alternatively, use the vertical scroll bar against the right-hand margin and to the right of the buttons.

If you really want to add your own pages then you will have to use Save Report As > Word-processor Document (RTF) and edit it in a word-processor such as MS Word.

Re: How to copy an ID record

Mike Tate

Hi Marjon,

I don’t know where this message from early September has been hiding but it just arrived today.

It is also best to start a new topic with a new message with a new Subject line.

Presumably, that relative does not have Family Historian installed.

So with the Diagram open, use Diagram > Save Diagram As > PDF File (.pdf) and accept the defaults.

You can then attach that saved PDF file to an Email message sent to your relative (assuming the file is not too large).

Can anyone tell me how to send an all relatives diagram of a particular relative to that relative?

Virus checkers are notorious for blocking software that isn’t (in their estimation) widely used, or which by total coincidence matches a pattern they’ve identified as a threat in another piece of software.  It is perfectly safe to unblock it.  If it was genuinely unsafe, this list would have been flooded with reports!

Hi,

I have already posted this topic but just to follow up as I haven't had a reply yet.
I realised afterwards that my Avast antivirus programme had detected a threat with its Ransomshield and asked if I wanted to block it, which naturally I did.
I have since checked Avast and found that the Family Historian program is on the blocked list.
Is it safe to unblock it? How did FH manage to pose a threat?

Regards,

Don

Unable to save

Don McQuade

I am running Windows 10, Family Historian 6.

For some reason it has stopping me saving my projects. I get the error message 'Unable to save. Access denied'. I haven'y altered anything so I'm puzzled as to why this is happening.

Help!

Re: Alternative Ancestors

Neill

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info

Much appreciated

I have now actually decided to use just Historian on my Laptop to store everything and back up a copy

So once I have made various updates, I delete my Tree on Ancestry and upload the new gedcom file, then the site refreshes and I can then check any new hints found

As you know FindMyPast, MyHeritage are already linked to Historian so they will automatically look for new hints when I add a new person.

This works very well for me.

Kind Regards

Neill

Hi Neill,

FH only offers the embed option to be compatible with the GEDCOM 5.5 specification.

Nowadays, no products use that feature and always have media files separate from the GEDCOM file.

Online trees such as at Ancestry, FindMyPast, MyHeritage, ZoomPast, etc, do not allow bulk uploading or downloading of files linked to a GEDCOM file.

There are workarounds in some cases as explained in the FHUG Knowledge Base.

For importing downloads from other products see Importing to Family Historian:

https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:index#importing_to_family_historian

For exporting from FH to other products see the Export Gedcom File Plugin:

https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:export_gedcom_file

Review its Output Formats for products that interest you:

https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:output_formats

You will discover that each product has its own interpretation of GEDCOM with its own variants.

The above guides explain how to cope with those variations.

The core features of GEDCOM are usually OK but some details leave something to be desired.

Hi Mike,

Brilliant thank you

While you are on

Do you know why FH software gives the option to embed photos/documents in to a Gedcom file for export but online sites will not accept the imported file

They appear to only accept Gedcom file where the photo/documents are links.

Also I cannot see any Photo’s after the Gedcom file has been uploaded using the link option

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards
