I forgot to mention that the more standard convention is to add the AGE to the CENS and not the OCCU because the Age is on the Census record.

I have not checked every fact, but the workaround for OCCU works for CENS, and I suspect for all other facts too.

At the moment I do not have any census data that I'd want to put in  a census event note.   However, I had considered using it for the Orphanhood value which I could later use to check for dead parents so I'd be glad if you can fix that as well.

You will need to give me a few more clues.

Are you creating a new Project or adding to an existing Project?

If I use P.OCCU.NOTE it adds the text to the Occupation fact Note.

How are you associating the new text with the desired Occupation fact?

The plugin uses Date, Place, etc, fields to sync new data to existing data.

i.e. To use an existing Occupation fact with a Date of 19 June 1921 then your CSV data must have a P.OCCU.DATE column with 19 June 1921.

If the plugin cannot associate the CSV data with any existing fact it creates a new fact instance.

 

I see that the Help page does not mention such synchronisation concepts, so I will update it.

Have you looked at the ‘Flexible CSV Importer’ plugin?

I don’t guarantee it will work for your data but it might.

The fundamental raw GEDCOM file format has not significantly changed, unless you involve Rich Text or Templated Sources.

Probably like a lot of people, I tend to keep my "raw" data in spreadsheets before inputting the details into Family Historian (maybe via Ancestral Sources) when I've identified the individual.

However, with the 1921 census I have identified from just the indexes over 1,000 entries relating to my One Name Study that I will probably want to add in when the 1921 data becomes available within an annual subscription (rather than the current pay-per-view).  Therefore I'm wondering if others have a way of transferring the spreadsheet data without having to re-type the information.

Previously, I had written a bit of code to do this but that was with an earlier version of FH when the raw GEDCOM file was much simpler.

I have thought about using a bit of code to create a very simple GEDCOM with just the new data and then using the FH  "Merge" facility to do the actual inputting - is this feasible??

It is a fault. It has been discussed several times in the FHUG Forums. The last time was just this week.

Calico Pie know about the problem but have not yet fixed it.

There is a workaround in this case by redefining your custom fact from an Event to an Attribute.

The Change Any Fact Tag plugin will let you convert all the Land Purchase Events to Attributes.

Then you can use {value} instead of {note} and move “Lots 1, 2 and 3 of Block 6, Dwinnel's Addition” from the Note to the Attribute value box.

This gives me the following sentence in - Properties  Facts  Sentence:
He purchased Lots 1, 2 and 3 of Block 6, Dwinnel's Addition from Henry GEFFERT on 23 January 1873 in Reedsburg, Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States.

 

But when I produce an Individual Narrative Report I get:
He purchased Lots 1, 2 and 3 of Block 6, Dwinnel's Addition.From Henry GEFFERT on 23 January 1873 in Reedsburg, Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States.

I'm hoping someone can tell me why.

The older .zip type files will still restore in the same way as the new .fhbak files, using the File > Backup/Restore > Restore Backup...  command in FH.   Only the name of the file type has changed.

The name change may have been made to stop users trying to restore the .zip file the wrong way , by simply clicking on it. 

I notice that the style of FH backups with this latest version FH 7.0.11 has changed from zip file type to fhbak type. Should I ever need to restore FH from a backup does this change mean that the old zip type would no longer restore properly? or are both types still applicable?

I haven’t posted to the group before but regularly follow the posts.

I am using FH Version 7 and have Windows 11.  I have only basic computer knowledge.

The problem I have is that I was attaching an exhibit to a person and the process didn’t work.  All I could see was the round blue windows symbol just spinning with nothing happening.  I waited for about 5 minutes then decided to close the program.  Tried reopening FH and got the Loading file screen but the program wouldn’t load.  I restarted my computer and got the same Loading file screen.

Not sure what to do next and any help would be gratefully received.
