When I raised the issue with Calico Pie I was simply told to use the External browser facility. It would have been nice if they had said that they were aware of the problem and would be taking

You are not alone. The advice from Calico Pie is to use the External web browser rather than the web search facility, which makes one wonder why they have put in a facility and then recommend it

I have switched back to using the FH web browser so that the hints update automatically but every now and then get a big banner to say "Internet Explorer is going to stop working, use Edge".

What I'm finding really helpful in analyzing the different ways things show up between RM and FH is to load up the GEDCOM file in my text editor and look at EXACTLY what RM is "saying" and exactly

I was a RM user for many years but switched to FH last August. I still prefer RM's way of matching your relatives to outside sources such as Ancestry and FamilySearch.

There are regular discussions and advice on migrating from RM to FH in the FHUG Forum and Knowledge Base.
