Sorry for the delay. The boxes in the diagram are empty. The double left click shows empty property boxes. I can't find any errors in the underlying databases. One of the empty boxes is attached

There is a ~SPOU shortcut to get to the wife’s husband but does get a bit trickier when there is more than one,

Please double-left-click on the Diagram box for either of the couple, i.e. the father or the mother.
That will display their Property Box with any Children listed in the pane at the bottom below the

Please tell us the text of the error messages.
Maybe you mean there are discrepancies between what is shown in the Diagram and what is in the Project

It is not as convoluted as it sounds because many of those are the default options.
Usually, most of the records of the Project need to be exported.
So it is not surprising that to export just Place

Seems convoluted but that's a lot of options! Good to know I can do it. This program is in many ways even more complex than TMG, the learning curve right now is steep.

Depending on the year of the obituary you can check FreeBMD and find out who the parents of the children are. I would can the article and add it to the death details of the person who died

I’d add a unnamed dummy child of James and Mavis and hang the grandchildren off that; and add another dummy child to that ‘family’ and hang the great grandchildren off them. (I do the same thing

I hope I can explain this issue in such a way as it makes sense and would love to know how others approach this.
