Re: Characters
Ron,
Yes, converting £ to D is rather odd.
I can only assume an unusual character encoding in the GEDCOM file.
What did the GEDCOM HEADer say against the 1 CHAR line?
UTF-8, ANSI, ANSEL or something

Family Historian can export a .GED file, which is the standard format for interchange between systems. Look it up first.
With kind regards,

Exporting Family Tree
Is there a way for me to export my family tree so it can be viewed outside the application?

As the green circles are not appearing at all, check Tools>Preferences>Internet Data Matches and make sure you still have FindMyPast matching Enabled.

I have had problems with this for a few months. I get the green circle showing matches for both FMP and My Heritage.
Using Web Search browser FMP matches just displays a blank screen no matter how

They both appear to be working fine here.
Are you using the FH Web Search Window or the External Web Browser option?
Can you sign in to both web sites OK?

internet data matches for Findmypast
don't know whether anyone else has the problem. Heritage internet matches only works intermittently but now internet matches for findmy past have stopped working completely.
Any help would be much

Re: Characters
Hi Ron,
That is a little unusual.
Try the cunningly named command Edit > Find and Replace...
But restrict the search to just Notes.

Re: Travel fact for an individual or families
Colin,
There already are several travel facts defined in the Extended Set of Facts.
Use Tools > Fact Types… and select Extended Set in the Fact Set filter at the top, then tick Show Hidden.

Thank you Adrian,
Your response is very helpful and gives me room for thought. I will set up an individual custom event as you suggest using the same source for all family concerned. If I use my test

Re: Travel fact for an individual or families
I created custom individual events of Arrival and Departure - used depending on which sort of passenger list I had. Not a family event because that really applies only to the couple.
Remember that

I wondered what fact should be used when travel is neither classed as imigration or emigration?
I have many instances where my relations who were based in India returned to

Dave,
You are extremely fortunate to have this book. I won't comment on entering the data as others have already done so adequately.

I must reinforce what Adrian is saying here. It is critical that you create a source for your “Written Family Tree” and include as much information about it as you can, who created it, when was it

As others have said, you can work in whichever direction you prefer. As the book is laid out "from the oldest ancestor down" and you think it contains 100-200 people I assume a lot of these people
