Mike,

I think the original web page is actually opening in Microsoft Edge.  On the far right in Edge there are three dots (...) which are similar to the three horizontal dots in Chrome.  If you click on those three dots, there is an option to Close Microsoft Edge near the bottom of the drop down list.

Why the original web page is opening in Edge is a different matter.  If I understand correctly it should only open in Edge if that is the default browser, but Derek indicated that that isn't the case.

The problem in question is when I use the plugin 'Lookup Missing Census Facts' version 4.6, it gives a report.

If on the screen at the right hand I click on '...' it gives a drop down menu at the bottom of which is 'Close Microsoft Edge'.

I did try what you suggested and changed Internet Data Matches to 'External Web Browser' but still uses 'Edge'. But then I'm not doing a data match search.

Jane, you must have had the note window open in order to add the link by right-clicking.  The relevant toolbar is the one at the top of that window.  It’s worth exploring all the icons in that toolbar because they offer a great variety of Rich Text options, although you may never need to use most of them.  Anyway I’m glad you have completed your task.

I don’t understand where you are seeing the ‘…’ on the screen.

The plugin produces two types of report:

1) FH Result Set (similar to a Query Result Set) with column headings No., Individual, Rec Id, Life Dates, Gen. Gap, etc.

2) Browser page (Google Chrome) with column headings No., ancestry.co.uk, findmypast.co.uk, familysearch.org, myheritage.com, etc.

Although I have Google setup as my default browser when I use plugins on Family Historian it opens Microsoft Edge.

Which means to use the plugin results I have to open and login to FindMyPast to use the results.

Individual Record Flags are nothing directly to do with Diagram Icons.

 

Earlier you said you used the AS Tools > Flag Assignment command to add a Flag for every Census.

That adds Individual Record Flags to many of your Individual Records.

 

Use FH Tools > Named Lists and Record Flags… command and the Record Flag drop list will show them all.

Select each Census Flag in turn and use Flag Changing Task 3 to clear them from all Individual records.

If you edit the Text From Source in the Source record again you can add the hyperlink to each Individual.

Use the paperclip Icon in the toolbar to add a link to each Individual in place of just their names.

 

Also, each Census and Occupation fact you added needs a Source Citation to link it to the Source record.

Find a Census Event for one of the other people and in the Source For Citation List pane use the Copy Citation to Source Clipboard button.

Then for each new Census and Occupation fact use the Paste Citation from Source Clipboard button.

Hi Jane,

There are two points here.  The first is that, having added the census and occupation facts to the extra individuals manually, you need to cite the Source record as evidence.   First make sure you are displaying the yellow Sources For pane attached to the Property Box (if it’s not there, click the yellow scroll icon in the small toolbar at the top of the Property box).  Now select each of the relevant facts in the Facts tab of the property box and then in the Sources For pane click Add Citation in the toolbar at the bottom. The choose Cite Existing Source, and select the correct Census Source record.

  

Secondly, to change the plain text name in the Source record into an active link, click on the Text from Source to open it in the note Window. Delete the plain text name but leave the cursor in the same place, and then click the Add Link icon in the Note window toolbar (4th from right) and select the appropriate individual record.

That has sorted it out. All the ticks and icons are now showing correctly for 1939 'Register'


I'm confused about the alternate ways to showing icons on diagrams. Perhaps I have been wording it wrong with 'Flags'?

I picked up a tip either on groups.io or FHUG on how to show census icons on diagram boxes and that is exactly how I did it. Just an expression to check for a condition and display the appropriate icon under the boxes.



Likewise, the extra columns in the Records windows to show a tick if the person has been recorded in a census was picked up here or FHUG

The simplest way to find all the Sources whose generic Type you need to change is to look at the Sources tab of the Records window. Click the heading of the Generic Type column. I have just compared the Citation to one of the people who are getting ticks and flags and he has Generic Type: Census, whereas my grandfather is Generic Type: Register - is it this I need to change?

Occupation, how to force FH to display the preferred Occupation?

In your earlier message you said that in AS you "....found the 29 people when unticking the Source Filter (8 found when ticked)". So the problem definitely lies with the sources for the other 21 people.


The AS filter allows you to specify what the Source Title contains. It is the generic Source Type which matters for the purposes of the Expression in the diagram scheme, but I suspect that your Source Titles and Source Types are the same. If you were filtering for Titles which contain 'Census' that would explain why it didn't find the ones containing '1939 Register' instead. I suspect that if you look at those sources you will also find that their generic Source Type has been set to '1939 Register' (or perhaps they have no Type set at all).


The solution is to change all the 1939 Source Types to 'Census' (this doesn't affect the Titles) or add another Expression to the diagram scheme, testing for the name of your 1939 Source types.

Using All Event query and sorting on Event Type (presume you meant that as there isn't a Fact Type Column), I have 29 people with a 1939 'census event' but in the Records Window just 8. So, I presume that I hadn't got AS set correctly with the Flag options.

I used Flag Batch add in AS Tools and found the 29 people when unticking the Source Filter (8 found when ticked), then apply the 1939 Register Flag, but it's made no difference to the Record 'ticks' for the 1939 column or icons on my Diagrams

What you call tags are known as Diagram Box Icons (tags have a different meaning).

There is advice in the FHUG Knowledge Base on ‘Using Icons’ with example codes:

Most users are satisfied with just showing that a source exists for a fact rather than how many sources.

Indicating how many sources exist is quite complex compared with just indicating any exists.

 

After reviewing the FHUG advice you may have more questions.

I have been using FH for about two months. I have recently learned how to implement 'simple' tags.
My skill level is minimal, but I have entered an expression to highlight any box wherein the individual has had military experience.

I am somewhat new to genealogy, but have determined that sources for birth, marriage, kids, & death seem to be very important.
So to help me understand how valid my 'claim' for any particular heritage, I would like to display 3 different Tags for each box on a display:
Tag for #of sources for birth (when greater than zero)
Tag for #of sources for marriage (when greater than zero)
Tag for # of marriages (when greater than 1)

Can anyone provide the code to do the above?
