Victor,
I am running win11 and FH 7.0.8.2. I just ran an Ancestors by Generation Report and it shows pictures of individuals but nothing else. I don't work with Narrative Reports so you would have to walk me through the settings for further testing. "Nothing else" may be what I am asking for. I am a beginner level FH user.
This thread got me to wondering about Publishing Books results which is what I work with and that does show the pictures I would expect...marriage records, gravestones and so forth.

Victor,
I very much doubt if Win 11 has anything to do with it.
Anyway, I am avoiding Win 11 as many gurus suggest it is effectively a beta release and not fit for purpose.

The fact that relinking the same image works OK also suggests it is not a Win 11 issue.

I've an inkling that I've dealt with that set of greyed out options before, but cannot recall the details.
Perhaps a screenshot would help, better in the FHUG Forum than here.

Thanks for your reply Mike

All my images are saved in media file folder in FH Projects folder. I have not moved anything. My FH Projects have been on One Drive for a long time and I have made no changes to location of folder.

I have checked external file links and they are all there.

I have checked my own birth certificate and prompting 'edit' the options to exclude the image from 'diagram ' 'report 'use link note as caption'
are all greyed out. I tried this on a census image with the same result

I have prompted 'use to existing media record' and was able to download the image and also use the above mentioned options. On that image I now have 2 of the same images. On the previous image the above mentioned options are still greyed out

The changes must have happened when upgrading to Win 11 has made this happen. Perhaps another shut down and open will sort this. I will do this later

Re: Narrative reports

Victor Markham

For  start

From the top select

Publish. This will open a drop down menu

From this menu you have 3 choices 1. Ancestors by genration, 2. Descendants by generation and 3 Individual

You select how many generations you want in the report.

This will generate a report. You can print directly from this in PDF format or save it to you file in PDF or Rich Text Format or simply text

If you save it in RTF you can make any adjustment (e,g. make images larger). I then save it in Word. PDF format wont allow you to make any adjustments

If you save it in RTF or Word and make adjustment go to Index and right click this will revise the index

Hope tis helps

Victor

Re: How to get account for the Support Center?

You don’t need an account as such.

Just visit http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/index.php and read the advice then click Open a New Ticket.

Or go to http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php and fill in your details.

Just keep using the same Email address and all will be OK.

You can even submit Email messages directly to support@... with the same effect.

Their Email reply will include a link that gets you back to the support ticket.

You can continue by Email or follow the link and post replies online.

Also, you can use the Check Ticket Status option.

I realise it could be explained better, but it is what it is.

SOLVED: Ros from Family Historian Support responded 5 hours ago to my ticket thanking me for the feedback and detailed information. Quick checks of the version specific pages that list all the plugins for that version now show the counts increased and  matching those of the All Plugins List and All Plugins page. Minor issue resolved.

Use File Explorer to check whether the image files actually exist at the specified location on disk.

Use the FH command Tools > External File Links... and tick Show Broken Links Only.
I would expect that to list your problematic images and confirm that they are not saved on disk where FH expects.
You can try the Auto Repair Links button that tries to locate those missing images and correct the File Links.

Is it possible that some reorganisation files on your PC may have accidentally moved or deleted those images?

Now it does not include any of the above. I have just checked the images and prompted edit. It states 'link details not applicable' which is why these images do not appear

I have looked to see if I can restore the link details but couldn't find anything.

This was the first time I have done a narrative report since the latest upgrade.

Anyone know how I can get these imges to be included in the report?

Re: Plugin Store Discrepancies

The following are missing from the page which should have all plugins for V7:

Title Description Compatibility Type
Create Source Template Definitions This plugin creates Source Template Definitions from Source Templates generated directly within Family Historian or imported from another compatible application such as RootsMagic.(V1.0) V7 Standard
Lumped Source Splitter This plugin converts a lumped source into individual split sources and recombines duplicated citations created during import from another genealogy application.(V1.2) V5 V6 V7 Standard
Note Records with Options Report on one or more Note records with Custom Id or Note Text or user-chosen Heading Level 1 text and Privacy bracket text options.(V1.2) V7 Report
Place Exceptions Place records can misspell names or misplace plots so this plugin tries to identify such exceptions.(V1.1) V6 V7 Standard

A possibility is that Microsoft Edge is not rendering the page accurately but that seems unlikely if the All Plugins page delivers them as do the V7 pages for Standard plugins and for Report plugins.

Re: Backup Problems

Hi Mike

I had repeated occasions when it would not backup without the error message coming up.

As far as I can see the files were not open, I cannot remember when I last opened them.  However following your first email I did open and close them both in Adobe Acrobat and also from the list in my documents.  It still would not run a backup without the error messages.  After having done one of the open and close exercises I rebooted my computer but it still would not run a normal backup.

It was only after I had deleted them from Adobe Acrobat and the list in my documents that a full backup was successful without any error messages.  I have since done three full backups and they have been successful.

I have One Drive on my computer but have never used it.

All seems well now and thanks for the help you have given me.

The problem is nothing to do with how long ago those two PDF files were created.

It is entirely to do with their current open/closed status during the Backup.

If another program application has them open while the Backup is running then that Backup cannot access them.

Presumably, you did not have them open in a PDF reader.

Another possibility is that a cloud store app such as OneDrive or Google Drive or some other auto-backup has temporarily locked those two PDF files open.

It is not clear if you only got those two error messages once or if you repeated the Backup and still got them.

If only once then I suspect trying the Backup again would have worked.

Thank you for your advice.  For some reason (can’t remember what) I had saved copies in my documents family information folder.  I have deleted both files from there and also the Public folder in Family Historian and everything backed up OK.  What i can’t understand is that All relatives diagram was created in 2014 and the Thomas Bean one in 2020 and I have backed up regularly since then without problem until recently.  However as backup seems to be working OK, as you say, I can recreate them easily.

The V7 discrepancy is with the page https://pluginstore.family-historian.co.uk/plugins-for-v7. It shows 82, instead of 86. I concur that if you look at the sub-menu pages by type, they total 86, matching the All Plugins List page and my stats.

As accurate as Google sheets queries and visual inspection of the number of rows and columns on each website page for each version. The latter are typically 4x4 but for V7 are 3x4 + 1x3. I'll do a one-by-one crosscheck this evening.

The subject has Pro's and Con's for both sides if you Google it.

I have to admit, I do leave my laptop on as it takes so long to boot, getting a bit long in the tooth.

If you use Edge or Chrome and look at Task Manager, you will see there is at least one process for each Tab you have open, and that can reduce processing power etc. if you leave them constantly open and the machine on. Like other apps, it is also a program so susceptible to machine crashes too.

My own preference if leaving a device on would to leave no program open. In my case especially FH as my projects are cloud based so leaving FH open is inherently dangerous in this case!

As I support GP surgeries and many staff work remotely at the moment, with sometimes several user profiles existing, our advise is to reboot these devices several times a week to clear Caches, temp files, multiple processes etc. and certainly close programs before they log off.

Best Wishes

Neil.

As an IT technician I would advise against leaving programs open. I presume your PC stays on or hibernates?

This is just one example of problems that could occur. PCs need regular reboots or shutdowns to clear out any build up of issues such as stale RAM usage etc.

Imagine if your PC crashed and you've left FH open. It could potentially trash your project in a worse case scenario.

The good thing about FH7 unlike its predecessor versions is that it will open where you left off, so even if you choose to leave the PC on or hibernate it, closing FH7 is a better choice.

I have to double click and using the up/down arrows has no effect. If FH hasn't changed, then it must be something on my computer that's changed. Yes, I was aware you could now click anywhere on a record name to update.
