Re: Display in Property Box

Hi Chester,

I presume you have just upgraded from FH V6.2.7 to FH V7.0.3 and this is your first encounter with Source Citations.

New users often experience your problem due to the introduction of a new floating Citation Window that can show the details you are missing.

There is an explanation in the FHUG Knowledge Base ‘Sources and Citations in Version 7 (for Upgraders)’:

https://fhug.org.uk/kb/kb-article/working-with-sources-and-citations-in-version-7/

You may need to use the Customize Citation Window options to reveal those missing fields.

Sorry if I have misunderstood your problem and it is something to do with upgrading from FH V7.0.2 to FH V7.0.3.

Display in Property Box

Chester O'Connor-Boyd

Hi,

I’m now using V7.0.3.

In the Citation panel of the Property Box, I have got it showing ‘Text: Source Record’ but, instead of the panel previously showing the data entry date and assessment, all it now has is the Source ID number which is not selected.

I have always had both shown in the ‘Customize Property Box’ and ticked in the ‘Options’, but I appreciate there may have been some ‘finger trouble’ when finding out about Generic and Templates.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Thank,

Chester

Ray, I have confirmed that FamilySearch has changed its search format.

The two Lookup Missing… plugins have been updated but need to be tested thoroughly.

I hope to publish them in the Plugin Store early next week if that is OK.

Re: Import - multiple copes of media?

Mike Tate

Yes, that is an interesting point.

There is the File > Validate command that could possibly perform the correction of duplicate media.

Local Media Objects (LMO) that RM and other products use can get added to a Project via File > Merge/Compare File and other scenarios.

Then the File > Validate command performs a similar conversion from LMO to Media Records as the GEDCOM import.

Hopefully, that will be fixed to avoid duplicates as well as the GEDCOM import process.

It would not be unreasonable to expect File > Validate to merge duplicate Media Records and files as part of its ‘validation’ regime.

Perhaps you could suggest that to Calico Pie since you have established a dialogue.

You do bring up a good point - the problem they are working to fix is a problem of the import process, so yes, it would only be fixed for new imports not getting duplicate media.

Doesn't do a thing to fix folks who already have duplicated media and have already "done the final import" and are moving ahead.  That's going to need a plugin to merge all of the duplicate records. Hmmm.

Many thanks Lesley. I too contacted customer support (8th March) and then again a couple of days ago. I had a nice reply from Martin in which he said much the same as you were told. I'd also asked if I could have a temporary license for FH6 so that I could use the plugin that sorts the problem out but they weren't able to do that.
Martin also thought that their solution would probably work on a new import rather than on an existing project (although he wasn't sure). This was a bit disappointing as I now have the option to either use the gedcom which came from RM7 via Gramps or wait in the hope someone comes up with a plugin or another solution.

This is an issue that must effect most people who move from RM to FH so I'm surprised that they haven't done something about it before?
Fingers crossed we don't have a long wait!!
Sally

Yes, I am getting the same symptoms even though I’m running the latest Firefox version but get the same with Chrome.

It looks like they may have changed the search records format and I need to update the Plugin.

Problem accessing Familysearch using Plugin

Not sure whether this is the right place to air this problem as I am not sure where the problem lies.

However, for the last few days when using the Plugin Lookup missing BMD Facts V2.4 on trying to access Familysearchits advises that my browser is not supported, this is clearly not correct as I am using Firefox. I have used this plugin in my current setup for many years without problems, anyone else having this problem?

Hi Heather,

Both your questions are handled by the Report > Options > Sources tab available when the Report is displayed.

One: Under ‘Source Citation Pictures’ tick/untick ‘Show Source Pictures’ and review the other settings nearby.

Two: In the same section to the right tick/untick ‘Show Captions with Pictures’ and review the settings underneath.

Re: Sources and linking media

Hi. To follow up on the sources and media problems I was having, I am still so grateful for all the help I received. I have amended a lot of records and am very happy that I understand what to do. All new sources are entered the "splitter" way and as I come across individual entries with "lumped" sources I can easily change them. I still have a couple of little questions though. One: Is it possible to not include a thumnail image of census entries in the Sources section of Reports?
Two: In any case, when I have an image displayed it appears with 2 names which is usually repeated information. One is the title of the source and the other is the title of the media item. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Custom Query - no result set

Mike Tate

Hi Edward,

It looks like you are using an Individual type of Query which should work if you are only searching for one particular fact.

The data reference will need to be something like %INDI.BIRT[1].SOUR[1]>% as %FACT… will only work in a Fact type of Query.

But instead of BIRT use the tag for the fact you are interested in finding, e.g. OCCU for Occupation, CENS for Census, etc.

If not sure what the fact tag is then on the Columns tab use the Fields on the left and expand the Events and Attributes sections.

That works for Individual facts but for Family facts such as MARRiage and DIVorce you must first expand the Family as Spouse section.

Note that %INDI.CENS[1].SOUR[1]>% only finds the 1st instance of possibly many Census facts for one Individual and also only the 1st Source Citation.

You will have to use %INDI.CENS[2].SOUR[1]>% to find the 2nd Census fact and so on for 3rd & 4th etc.

Similarly, for each of those use SOUR[2] to find 2nd Source Citation and so on for 3rd & 4th citation, etc.

If you are searching for a variety of facts especially those with multiple instances then a Fact type Query may be easier.

There are examples of such Queries in the FHUG Knowledge Base Downloads.

Custom Query - no result set

Edward Sneithe

I am trying to create a custom query so that I can look at the contents of  particular fact from every person who has one.

This has been disabled and I still get no output. There are facts with sources.

The licence allows YOU to run the software on 2 PCs that are only used by YOU. So, no, you can’t share with your brother.

Thanks Neil & Paul for your prompt and, unfortunately, not unexpected responses.

I presume that there is no capability to share licences across family members, as we are only working on one project?
If not, I'll go away and try to placate my brother!

Cheers
Jez

Yes, upgrading to v7 does some changes to the underlying Gedcom file which are not recognised by v6.   Both must be on the same version, so he will have to upgrade.  I suggest you both make sure you have the latest download - v7.0.3.0 as that has a lot of fixes applied.
