Problem accessing Familysearch using Plugin
rgadney@btinternet.com
Not sure whether this is the right place to air this problem as I am not sure where the problem lies. However, for the last few days when using the Plugin Lookup missing BMD Facts V2.4 on trying to access Familysearchits advises that my browser is not supported, this is clearly not correct as I am using Firefox. I have used this plugin in my current setup for many years without problems, anyone else having this problem? Ray G

Re: Import - multiple copes of media?
Leslie P
I have had contact with FH support (Calico Pie) regarding this issue, I have just been told that they consider it an active issue, they are currently working on it, they do understand the importance.
My note to them included the, hopefully gentle, request that they tell me if they hoped to have it fixed within the next six months, so I could determine whether to pursue a fix on my own, or wait for them. They said they hoped to have the fix within my time frame. So...good news! Hang in there! It's going to get fixed.

Re: Sources and linking media
Hi Heather, Both your questions are handled by the Report > Options > Sources tab available when the Report is displayed. One: Under ‘Source Citation Pictures’ tick/untick ‘Show Source Pictures’ and review the other settings nearby. Two: In the same section to the right tick/untick ‘Show Captions with Pictures’ and review the settings underneath.

Re: Sources and linking media
Heather Williams
Hi. To follow up on the sources and media problems I was having, I am still so grateful for all the help I received. I have amended a lot of records and am very happy that I understand what to do. All new sources are entered the "splitter" way and as I come across individual entries with "lumped" sources I can easily change them. I still have a couple of little questions though. One: Is it possible to not include a thumnail image of census entries in the Sources section of Reports?
Two: In any case, when I have an image displayed it appears with 2 names which is usually repeated information. One is the title of the source and the other is the title of the media item. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Custom Query - no result set
Hi Edward, It looks like you are using an Individual type of Query which should work if you are only searching for one particular fact. The data reference will need to be something like %INDI.BIRT[1].SOUR[1]>% as %FACT… will only work in a Fact type of Query. But instead of BIRT use the tag for the fact you are interested in finding, e.g. OCCU for Occupation, CENS for Census, etc.
If not sure what the fact tag is then on the Columns tab use the Fields on the left and expand the Events and Attributes sections. That works for Individual facts but for Family facts such as MARRiage and DIVorce you must first expand the Family as Spouse section.
Note that %INDI.CENS[1].SOUR[1]>% only finds the 1st instance of possibly many Census facts for one Individual and also only the 1st Source Citation. You will have to use %INDI.CENS[2].SOUR[1]>% to find the 2nd Census fact and so on for 3rd & 4th etc. Similarly, for each of those use SOUR[2] to find 2nd Source Citation and so on for 3rd & 4th citation, etc.
If you are searching for a variety of facts especially those with multiple instances then a Fact type Query may be easier. There are examples of such Queries in the FHUG Knowledge Base Downloads.

Custom Query - no result set
Edward Sneithe
I am trying to create a custom query so that I can look at the contents of particular fact from every person who has one.
This has been disabled and I still get no output. There are facts with sources.

The licence allows YOU to run the software on 2 PCs that are only used by YOU. So, no, you can’t share with your brother.

Thanks Neil & Paul for your prompt and, unfortunately, not unexpected responses.
I presume that there is no capability to share licences across family members, as we are only working on one project? If not, I'll go away and try to placate my brother! Cheers Jez

Paul Tanner-Tremaine
Yes, upgrading to v7 does some changes to the underlying Gedcom file which are not recognised by v6. Both must be on the same version, so he will have to upgrade. I suggest you both make sure you have the latest download - v7.0.3.0 as that has a lot of fixes applied.

Version 6 compatibility with Version 7 project
jez@...
New to this forum & have a basic question, to which I'll probably get an answer I didn't want!
My brother & I work on the same project file shared on one drive. I upgraded to v7 recently, he is still on v6. He is getting a message: "Caution: This family tree file was created by a later version of FH. Opening it may result in data loss. Do you wish to continue" Is this true? Have I, by upgrading, forced him to do the same? I won't be popular!! Thanks in advance. Jez

Re: Where is the Diagram Options Dialog in version 7?
They are all still there in FH V7 in much the same place. With the diagram displayed use Diagram > Options… or right-click Diagram Options… The initial Select Root dialogue also has a ‘More options…’ blue link to all the Options. However, there are some new Chart Diagrams that have much reduced Options.

Where is the Diagram Options Dialog in version 7?
In version 6, I had a comprehensive dialog for diagram options, as on page 90 of the book. I cannot find this after updating to version 7.

Re: Children's section of Focus Window
jeffsteal@...
Sorry for the slowness in reply. Sleep and non-genealogy problems to be solved came first. The GEDCOM was imported from WeRelate.org which is a wiki-type program which I have got quite involved with on the geography side. However, there are times when a user wants to keep some family facts private. I used Legacy for a long time before moving to WeRelate and have grown tired of it. It was time to try another program. RootsMagic might have got my approval, but not without the long-promised update. When I imported the GEDCOM it came up as a type of read-only file. I couldn't figure out how to change the name of it, but I did inspect it. The import process reported "no errors". I was advised that street addresses for the censuses were moved to the Notes box and that was fine with me. I have now printed off all the instruction files dealing with sources, source templates, source citations, the citation window, etc so that I can easily refer to them while adding in the equivalent data from my WeRelate tree. I hope to work through these in the next few days. Regards Pat Jeffs

Thanks Debbie
That confirms what I was beginning to fear. At least I can now stop trying to achieve 'the impossible' :-) I will try your get round as it sounds like something I can live with. Apologies for the lateness of my reply. My failing health was poor over the last week and preclude my sitting at a PC. BW and kind thanks Mike S

Re: Children's section of Focus Window
Sorry, that is not possible, but there is the Quick Family Facts plugin from the Plugin Store that displays all that info and more for the entire family. See Tools > Plugins and Plugin Store button. If ticked so it appears in the Tools menu it can be invoked quickly with the Alt T Q shortcut.
It would help us to know the problems you ran into with the import GEDCOM process. What product were you importing from?

Children's section of Focus Window
jeffsteal@...
Can one add more fields to the Children section of the Focus Box? I would like to be able to provide the birthplace as well as the date of birth and also the death date. There's plenty of space and moving to each child's Focus Box is time-consuming.
BTW, I gave up on the gedcom import and have entered my 40 people individually. Regards Pat Jeffs
