There is a new version of this plugin in the plugin store to fix this problem.

Subject: [family-historian] Plug In for Birth Entry Data (UK) for FHv.7

Hello,
I am trying to run the plugin for the data assistant for source creation for a birth certificate. I keep receiving the following error message (see below). I follow the help hint, but nothing changes and the error message below continues to appear. When I press the exit button to try to get back the the working screen of FH, the whole program crashes. When I reopen the program, the source for the record appears, but only containing the information from the general source box, none of the additional information has been recorded. Thank you in advance for any help or advice...

In vs 6 I had a source - Family Member -  and in the field "Where within" I would type something like Father James Dean. I'm now trying to venture into Source Templates and want to create as above. I've created a source Family Member in a collection called - My Templates. Now I want to create a field "Who"  to take the place of the "Where Within" field in the old Generic template. I've created the field, but when I try to use the template, the field "Who" isn't visible. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please?

Luckily, you are wrong, and your data is all OK but viewed differently.

Subject: [family-historian] Problem with citations

In FHv.6 I used the “Where within” box in “Citation specific details” on its own to record my reference (eg DALE Album 15/ page 67) to the location in one of my many loose leaf albums of the piece of paper from which the entry was taken (eg print-out of census return etc).  This has worked well from when I started using FH, I think with v.3.

On upgrading to v.7 these references have disappeared.  In retrospect, I think I have misunderstood both the Source and citation boxes and misused the Citation box by not completing it fully but “Where within” appeared to be just what I required.

I imagine this now means having to find and re-enter the reference to every fact for each of the 3,246 persons recorded!  Please tell me I am wrong!   A possible saving grace is that I still have back-ups of my old v.6 (admittedly some months old) but other than buying a second PC and running v.6 on that and then manually re-entering in v.7 I can’t think of how to overcome the problem.   The last option, and a very retrograde one, I can think of would be to revert to V.6 which, obviously, I would prefer not to do.

I have searched FHUG for anyone with a similar problem but had no results.

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Douglas

I suspect you have not read all the notes provided for V7 upgraders.

To see your Where within notes double click on your citation in the property box to open the citation window.

No I don't think I am.

I saw that they were squeezed up on the left, but at the top of each level it has the Gen number and 6xGt Grandparents says 9th Generation

Yes, you can get something similar using Chart > Pedigree Chart… with appropriate options if you have a large enough page.

A standard Ancestor Diagram with Right-left orientation is also quite similar.

The size of the file may not be the concern; she may only have access to a work laptop which she can’t use use for private purposes. My sister has a work laptop and she is prohibited (and prevented from) from downloading anything that doesn’t come from her employer’s private network...

Yes, I agree

I am struggling to know why a (relatively these days) small file isn't wanted on her device.

It would be much easier to access should there be no internet access.

It can easily be sent via WeTransfer or similar to avoid possible email issues.

No Mike, Neil is not misreading it.   The chart shows only nine generations including the ones squeezed on the left.  The column headings make it clear: the last column is "6th Great-Grandparents (9th Generation)"

That is a very strange request.

Apart from printing it on paper and posting it, the only option is to save to cloud storage such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.

I would advise that Word document is opened in MS Word or similar and saved as a PDF to put in the cloud.

Then your daughter could view it page by page via a browser on any device.

You will need to send her a link to the PDF or she must sign in to your cloud storage account to view the PDF.

Hello I have just completed a Book on FH7.140 pages. Saved as a Word Doc , size 19MB in Rich text format.
I wish my daughter in Auckland to view my book but she does not not wish to download it to her laptop.
Any ideas how she can view the book at any time without saving it ?

many thanks Alan

Re: 12 Generation Pedigree Chart

Yes, use the chart called Ancestors - Left-to-Right.   You can choose the number of generations in the Diagram options, General tab.

In V7 you can find it under Charts>More Diagrams (or View>Charts>More Diagrams).  In earlier versions I think it would have been under View>Charts.

V7 also has a new chat called Pedigree Chart which enables you to spread the chart over several continuation pages (with an arrow on each page indicating the number of the page it links to), for printing on A4 paper.
