Re: Hints/tips when moving to Family Historian 7 (and Ancestral Sources 7)
It is advisable to review all the new features of FH V7 because once you have upgraded there will be no going back to FH V6 as the GEDCOM and customisation settings are radically changed.
Some customisations may not be fully operational in FH V7 and will need fixing. Plugins from FH V6 will not run in FH V7 without some adjustments. There is a growing wealth of advice in the new FHUG Knowledge Base.

Re: We're having email problems on the Family Historian website!
It is quite common for low-usage new programs to be considered a virus threat. There is often a way round that but the option is sometimes hidden in the small print. Alternatively, temporarily disable the anti-virus package or add an exception for FH.exe. That and related advice is available in the FHUG Knowledge Base. Regards, Mike Tate

Re: We're having email problems on the Family Historian website!
The snag with a CD is that many PC these days don’t come with a CD/DVD optical drive. We regularly get users asking how to install FH on a laptop with no CD drive. Maybe the S&N physical package is a USB memory stick which would be much better. Regards, Mike Tate

I managed to get to the update & pay for it, so that’s working ok. Only
trouble now is the download is getting stopped as a virus threat!

Hints/tips when moving to Family Historian 7 (and Ancestral Sources 7)
Paul Terrill
Hi all,
Does anyone have any hints or tips when upgrading to FM7 and AS 7 please? I am currently using FH 6.2.7 and AS 5.2.0. For example, will be settings and preferences and expressions etc automatically move or do I need to do something extra. I would rather not try to remember what defaults I have changed in the current version. I have bought FH7 and downloaded both FH7 and AS7. I am excited to start using them but am nervous to install! Thanks in advance. Paul

Re: We're having email problems on the Family Historian website!
Roy,
S&N Genealogy are selling a "physical" package, by which I presume they mean a CD version, but you might want to check before ordering. Family Historian V7 + Free Regional Research Guidebook & Online Subscription worth over £48 - S&N Genealogy Supplies

The code is in the email they sent you with the download. I’m hoping they bring out a new book of instructions too! Nicola

Re: We're having email problems on the Family Historian website!
Yes they got inundated with new requests I think.
From: Robert Jordan Unfortunately Neil your post is not wholly accurate. Having finally managed to open an account I put my licence name and number in and received a message that the number could not be found. I then contacted FH who admitted that not all numbers were in system. This despite my still having the original email from 2016 containing the number. I was told to wait 48 hours to try again! Something seems to be seriously wrong On Wed, 9 Dec 2020, 05:13 Mike Tate, <post@...> wrote:

Victor, I have also been a user since FH V2, and upgraded every version as a download from Calico Pie, but that does not need an account. Accounts a relatively new, and are not numerical, so like me, you will probably need to create one. Mike Tate

Will it be possible to buy FH on a disc (in a kit) rather than by a download – or both?

I would like to clarify one thing. If I have a version 6 from a previous upgrade (I have upgraded everytime) do I need to download the full version or do I qualify for the discount version? Victor On 08/12/2020 5:27 pm, Simon Orde wrote:

Re: We're having email problems on the Family Historian website!
Victor If you have an account (you will need one), and when FH have fixed the email issue. When you go to the Upgrade option - specifically this page Family Historian 7 Upgrade – Family Historian 7 (family-historian.co.uk) - you can put in your License name and number and it will tell you what discount if any you are due. It states "The discount for version 6 users normally starts at 30%. The discount for version 5 users is normally 20%" Best Wishes Neil.

*** Family Historian 7 has been released! ***
Simon Orde
I am delighted to announce that Family Historian 7 has been released!
The new version has a wealth of new features and improvements - please see www.family-historian.co.uk/whats-new-in-7 for details.
Thank you very much to everyone who took part in beta-testing version 7. We are hugely grateful for the terrific response and dedication of so many people. The program is unquestionably in every way so much better thanks to your efforts. I will be emailing you all shortly, as promised, just to thank you again and update you.
Family Historian 7, in our view, opens up an entirely new chapter for the program. As you will discover, there is a lot of new stuff (but don't worry - it's still very much the same program that you know and love!).
We're conscious that we have not been very good at keeping you all updated on progress. I hope you feel as we do that it's been worth it in the end!
Best wishes
Simon Orde P.S. If you don't see anything about Family Historian 7 when you try to look at the Family Historian website, please leave it for an hour and try again. S.O.

Undelivered email digest
paulboocock@...
I have been receiving a full digest without problems since the group started in January.
I did not receive digest #269. Under subscriptions/email history on the groups.io site it says that the digest was undeliverable but no indication of a method of re-trying for a delivery. Any ideas?

Again thanks. I was not aware of the Export Gedcom File plugin. I will definitely try it. KR Geoff

Re: Changing address of media files en masse
I’m glad that worked. If your Media files were scattered around it would be long-winded.
Are you aware there is an ‘Export Gedcom File’ plugin that has a TNG export mode? https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:export_gedcom_file There is also advice on how that works for TNG in the FHUG Knowledge Base. https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:tng_the_next_generation
