Re: Create New Reports

Hi Mike

Started to work through your 3 very useful FHUG Knowledge Base links.

I think I will download and install Ancestral Sources 5.2.0 64 bit version into my FH v6.2 onto my laptop using Windows 10. It looks very useful and saves a lot of work

I notice it ‘highly recommends that I work with a ‘copy’ of my project/file to help me find out how to use Ancestral Sources and decide on what settings I require’.

Do I just retain a copy of all of my current projects or select one to copy in FH?

Keith

Hi Keith,

For advice on all those topics, I strongly advise you to join the FHUG.

https://www.fhug.org.uk/

It is entirely free, has discussion Forums on all related topics, many useful free Downloads, and a Knowledge Base wiki with a wealth of advice, which includes all the topics you are asking about and much more.

e.g.

https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:merge_compare_files for Merge/Compare Files

https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:sources for managing Source Citations

https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=ancestralsources:index the free companion program Ancestral Sources for capturing Census & BMD sources.

I look forward to meeting you there.

Regards, Mike Tate

Newbie, who has been using FH6 for many years mainly for storing primary source information from BMD and census records. Now in lockdown, I find that I have now have time to start finding out the best practise for creating new secondary source records which I have been putting off until now.

I would welcome advise on the best ways to start going about this daunting task. I must admit that my first task will be make sure that I update my recent BMD and census records before I start on any records. One topic that I would also welcome advise on is the best practise for correct citation of all primary and secondary sources. Finally, I have never attempted to start to try to merge family trees projects, again is there advise on best practise? Thank you
