This sort of thing can happen if your email provider tweaks it's spam filters, so the email from the Groups.io domain suddenly goes to spam.
I once inadvertently marked a Mail as spam and then had to go through the 'remove' process.
I also find emails in spam occasionally and have the option to mark as 'Not Spam and safe sender' or safe domain, though these opines for some reason don't trigger the removal.

I was suspicious at first so rather than click on the link, went direct to the Groups.io site, logged on and unbounced myself. So I guess this is genuine but a little unexpected.
