[espeak-ng:master] New Issue Created by DataTriny:
#711 Issue with o sounds in French language

Hello, Here are two issues I've found concerning the "o" sound in French.

  1. The word "note" is pronounced correctly (n'Ot), but not "notes", which is pronounced "n'ot" where it should be "n'Ot". This is true for a couple of other words such as vote/votes, code/codes, robe/robes, protocole/protocoles...
  2. "notre" is pronounced like "nôtre" (n'otr) but it should be "n'Otr".

Thanks in advance for fixing these, or pointing me to the steps needed to resolve them.

#712 Questions: Update via GITHUB and Read PDF

Hello I have some doubts I tried to search ... It may be my ignorance ... It is better to ask than to be absent from knowledge.

I actually have two doubts:

1 - How can I update if I already have it installed on my Debian. What is the exact command to update via Git Hub.

2 - How can I make it Read PDF. I saw that it was possible but I couldn't get it to work.

Thanks in advance!

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #702 In French: bad pronunciation of the letter "ô"
By valdisvi:

There is specific rule line 1063 in fr_rules file to spell ..ôt as ..O~ in difference of ..ot which is spelled as ..o line 949. Solutions may be: 1. Removing that rule (then will be spelled as ..o:, coming from default pronunciation of ô in line 1062. 2. Changing existing rule to ô) t_ o to spell ..ôt as o. 3. Changing existing rule to r) ô (t_ O~ for ..rôt to be spelled as ..O~. Or should it be even more specific?

@sthibaul Do you know if there is a word where "ô" is pronounced differently than a simple "o"?

IMHO, ô should be announced like "o" as indicated on the French wikipedia page of the letter "ô".

c523856d4ad4: Fix testsuite with /bin/sh being bash

With bash, echo "a\nb" will not interpret \n, while with dash, echo will
interpret \n. bash's echo would need -e, but dash does not know that
option and just prints it.

We can however just put \n litteraly in the script, both bash and dash
will understand it.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #437 Misrendering of the word "wherever"
By RhyanJohnson:

I've run this 1000 times on my Debian Linux system and not seen any differences:

seq 1 1000 | while read N ; do src/espeak-ng -ven-us -xq -f ../wherever-input.txt > ../wherever-output-2.txt ; diff ../wherever-output.txt ../wherever-output-2.txt ; done

This may be a compiler dependent bug (i.e. using msvc on Windows), or a bug in that version that was fixed.

The weirdness arises when I am running on an AWS p3.16xlarge machine with Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, and espeak-ng 1.49.2.

When I run the command on my MacBook Pro, it has to fall back to standard espeak because I'm unable to install espeak-ng. And with espeak, no 'wherever' issues seem to arise. Will try to install an older version onto the Ubuntu machine and see what I find!

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #437 Misrendering of the word "wherever"
By RhyanJohnson:

Thanks for your help trying to track down the issue.

Can you try the test with -X instead of --sep=_? -- That should provide more information about what is happening. Just one of the failure cases/runs should be enough.

Yes - will do!
