[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #436 Slurring of words and phrases
By rhdunn:

I have identified and fixed the issue with twenty, fantasy, etc. Thanks for taking the time to provide examples of the issue.

The problem caused the vowel before the 'n' to be longer than it should be. This made the words slower than normal, and made them sound slurred.

For the "for the" and "for a" words, those are pronounced the same as they were in espeak, so I don't know if they have been fixed or if it is a different issue (e.g. a change in NVDA's Edward speechplayer voice).

#436 Slurring of words and phrases

I've mentioned this on mailing lists before, but I'll do so again here. I checked the issues from recent months and this hadn't come up.

A number of words and phrases have been unnaturally slurred in the version of Espeak ng packaged with the NVDA screen-reader since December. These include the phrases "for the" and "for a", and words such as "they're and our", twenty, nineteen, ninety, percent, fantasy and probably some others I can't think of right now. This makes these words and these ones alone sound slower than all the rest of the text around them, which is distracting and inaccurate.

Am I explaining this right? Has this been fixed and I just didn't see the issue yet? I went back to before December in open and closed Issues to make sure... All I know is the pronunciations of these words and phrases were fine in previous versions of the synthesiser.

By rhdunn:

Thanks, I have applied fixes for these words. It is fine to say which syllable should be stressed, like you did with Ursula.

#440 More Mispronunciations I have discovered

The first one is a Harry Potter term, but was previously rendered correctly. Apparated sounds like "Appareted", rather than "ApperAted". I do not mean there should be any stress on the capitalised syllable, but that the "ated" part should be clearly heard, as it was in previous versions.

The second I have discovered is the name "Ursula". The second syllable should not be stressed. No syllables in this name are stressed more than the others.

I'm sorry, I can't do the fiddly symbols marking stressed syllables and how they are stressed, as others can. I can only do my best to explain what I'm hearing.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #437 Misrendering of the word "wherever"
By rhdunn:

I cannot reproduce this, but from the explanation it sounds like a separate issue I have fixed. I'll keep this open for now.

#454 android: issues with russian languages

hello all.

i've built the latest master android build ./autogen.sh ./configure --with-gradle= make apk-debug

i've installed apk and discovered that some letters in russian language are cutting. first letter of a word never is spoken.

i've built it also for linux, wrote wav file with russian voice/text and it worked as expected.

what can be done to fix android behaviour?

#456 Sine Wave Speech and noise voice

I would like to add an SWS voice, and a noise based voice instead of using formants.

I'd be willing to modify the code to make the voices but i don't know where to start.

here is some more information about sine wave speech: http//www.scholarpedia.org/article/Sine-wave_speech For speed reading we don't really need the formants
