[espeak-ng/espeak-ng] Pull request updated by BenTalagan:

#746 Fixing handling of sequence .' in english

Hello, this is kind of a bug I've referenced here : #741 .

The handling of the sequence .'does not seem totally optimal to me, since a lot of people use the apostrophe character as a simple quote ; espeak considers that this sequence is an acronym followed by a genitive (ex: u.s.a.'s) and thus prevents the last dot from being used as a clause end, which is annoying in a quoted context : He said 'I am back.' and left would trigger the pronunciation of dot after back.

But this can be easily disambiguated if testing the character after the apostrophe.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #741 Spurious punctuation pronunciation
By BenTalagan:

After investigation the case I've commented on seems a bit different and specifically related to the handling of simple quotes (see PR #746). However, the initial issue might be related to the logic of ReadClause too - no proof yet :).

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #741 Spurious punctuation pronunciation
By BenTalagan:

Getting similar results on punctuation in other contexts, espeak has a slight tendency to overspell punctuation marks :) For example within simple quotes :

espeak-ng -v en " He said 'hello, I am back.' and left."

Will trigger the pronunciation of dot. Curiously, this will trigger the pronunciation of exclamation if we use ! instead of . but it won't with ?. This does not happen with double quotes.

Might be related to #583 too.

Hi Rick,

If you are familiar with Jaws, you might find our guide to switching from Jaws to NVDA useful: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/SwitchingFromJawsToNVDA

If you are familiar with Window-Eyes, we have a similar guide for switching from Window-Eyes to NVDA: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/Switching-from-Window-Eyes-to-NVDA

And if you would like training in NVDA from scratch, we have Basic Training for NVDA available in electronic text: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/basic-training-for-nvda-ebook/

Kind regards

Quentin.

[espeak-ng:master] New Issue Created by michael-conrad:
#745 Doucmentation request: Tone(

I'm trying to add Cherokee based on Cherokee English Dictionary phonetics and don't see any documentation for Tones, though I see examples in various phoneme files, I really don't understand what the different parameters are for or how to define a specific envelope shape. Or how to use different tones based on previous tones in the dictionary rules section.

The CED phonetics uses 8 tones:

1: low fall 2: low/regular 3: high 23: low then rising to high 32: high then falling to low 34: high then rising 4: rising higher than previous tone rose 43: end of word high fall. starts higher than previous tone and falls

Re: Just starting with eSpeak NG

Valdis Vitolins

If you use Linux, install it with standard package manager. If you use Windows, download and install it from
https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/releases/tag/1.50
Most important changes of the project are described here: https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md

Re: ESPEAK FLEMMISH

Valdis Vitolins

eSpeak NG has support for Dutch.

If you want, you can add Flemish as a new language, or reuse and
redefine settings for Dutch.

Look description here:
https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/blob/master/docs/add_language.md

I can create initial configuration files, but actual rules are up to
you, because I can't even find necessary information about Flemish in
wikipedia or omniglot.

Valdis

Hi

Does Espeak now offer Flemmigh too or Dutch Belgium?

Thanks.

Removed: .settings/org.eclipse.jdt.core.prefs

#744 Remove Eclipse IDE local user specific project settings file.

IDE local user files should not be in the project. And it appears to specify Java 1.6 as the JDK to use when loading the project workspace up in Eclipse.

I improved part of the the Chinese dictionaries and their priorities, fixing some common unclear/wrong pronunciations. These are not comprehensive, just some I discovered when using espeak-ng for my project.

ESPEAK IN MICROSOFT?

Ricky Lomey

Hi

Even though Narrator and Espeak are of course totally different products and
comparisons are odious, is there a way to add Espeak to Narrator or parts of
Espeak to Narrator as a voice in some way, say to add Afrikaans as a
language in Narrator or any other it doesn't use and then to add Espeak or
use Espeak somehow else in Microsoft or can it only be used with Window-Eyes
or Jaws or perhaps NVDA because I just find it so much easier to switch
languages using Espeak.

Thanks.

Ricky Lomey

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #742 Cracks when voicing multi-line text

No no, this is not what I want to do.

I can delete the lines myself.

I need a parameter for Espeak to ignore the lines.

But still thank you.
