[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #618 Difference between espeak-ng and speak-ng?
By valdisvi:

speak-ng seems just wrapper (probably for backward compatibility) of espeak-ng.

[espeak-ng:master] new issue: mbrola not working #github

[espeak-ng:master] New Issue Created by metal3d:
#621 mbrola not working

Hi, First of all: https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/blob/master/docs/mbrola.md => you says "Linux installation" but it's not - it's "Debian" installation. For Linux installation, we need something more "global" and universal.

So, now :)

On Fedora. I decided to compile espeak-ng myself (it seems that the provided package in repository is not compiled with mbrola support)

I did:

./autogen.sh
./configure --with-mbrola
make
sudo make install

Pcaudiolib is installed, everything is ok.

I now compiled MBROLA myself from https://github.com/numediart/MBROLA

make
sudo cp Bin/mbrola /usr/local/bin/mbrola

OK.

I now tried to download and install voices from https://github.com/numediart/MBROLA-voices Tried: - sudo cp -r data/* /usr/local/share/espeak-ng-data/mbrola (with directory created) - in /usr/share/mbrola - with something that worked weeks ago:

sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/mbrola/voices
for voice in data/*; do
    voice=$(basename $voice)
    sudo cp data/$voice/$voice /usr/share/mbrola/voices
done

Wherever I put voices, espeak-ng doesn't see voices, and cannot speak with mbrola voice:

 espeak-ng -v mb-fr1 "Coucou"
mbrola: Fatal error in line:
mbrola:
mbrowrap error: mbrola exited with status 253

So, maybe it's mbrola, maybe not...

To be sure, I tried from MBROLA voices dir:

espeak-ng -v mb-fr4 "Une phrase pour tester" --pho -s 110 | mbrola fr4/fr4 - out.wav
paplay out.wav

And it works.

So, the problem is to find mbrola voices - any help ?

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #621 mbrola not working
By metal3d:

OK... I make a git bisect on mbrola. The last commit breaks things. I still not see "mb" voices with espeak-ng --voices but espeak-ng -v mb-fr2 "Une phrase pour tester" is working.

So, the only problem is to know why I cannot list mb voices now.

By metal3d:

OK... forget... It seems that the problems come from the bad mbrola commit. Reverted and reinstalled is ok.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #617 Generating speech from phonemes? / Phoneme representation specification
By valdisvi:

You can get list of all phonemes in all languages in phsource folder by entering this command:

egrep -r phoneme *|egrep -v endphoneme

All languages rely on phonemes defined in phonemes file and then can extend and/or override phonemes in some other language. There is no way to pass IPA phonemes as input, you can see them in output adding --ipa switch, but it will show proper IPA symbol only if it was added in phoneme definition for particular language.

The e in "Dengler" should be pronounced as a short e, like in "pet", rather than a short i. Thanks.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #616 `espeak-ng --ipa -v de ütz` produces the phoneme `ˈ?ts` -- ? is not a proper phoneme.
By valdisvi:

For many phonemes in espeak-ng, IPA name is not defined and then name given in configuration (e.g. for phoneme a a is used). In this case wrong entry ipa ? was added for phoneme y. You can review ph_german and check for any other errors or missing IPA names for phoneme entries.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #622 Pronunciation of "Dengler"
By valdisvi:

Safe way would be for you to customize your espeak-ng. In espeak-ng project create file dictsource/en_extra and add following line to it:

dengler d'ENgl3 $capital

Then recompile entire project with command make -B in the espeak-ng folder or recompile only English language:

cd your-place/espeak-ng/dictsource/
../src/espeak-ng --compile=en

where your-place is actual place of the espeak-ng project.
