[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Pull Request #462 Some improvements to German
By valdisvi:

Good! I also tend to do merge locally. But this case looks insane even in meld... Hozosch, maybe you will help new possibility to change, and build eSpeak NG on-line.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Pull Request #462 Some improvements to German
By rhdunn:

Yeah. I have had a look through the changes and have some comments.

  1. The changes are based on an older commit of espeak-ng. This makes it harder to merge if/when additional changes have been made.

  2. Can you make sure that the phoneme files build before committing the changes? The EI phoneme change duplicates the phoneme EI line, which breaks the current build.

  3. The main conflict comes from these changes being based on the previous German changes which I reverted due to feedback (https://groups.io/g/espeak-ng/message/1279).

Can you recreate the fixes from the latest commit instead of an older version?

It might be better to describe the changes and fixes you are trying to make. Some of the changes (e.g. the "a" at the end of beta and komma) don't match standard German, which espeak/espeak-ng follow with the a phoneme instead of the A: phoneme you are using.

There are clearly some errors we can fix (e.g. the feature definition for the b phoneme, but things like the changes to the phonemes to use the base definitions may be something worth discussing with other German espeak users. I'm also curious if some of the changes are accent specific.

Does this not then add one more parameter to change for programs like nvda?
Only if you want to change the base voice/accent. It will be like selecting Edward, or any of the other voice variants. And it would be no different to other TTS programs where you specify the voice and language to use.

phoneme equivalent tables? #github

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #466 Could you please re-add phoneme
equivalent tables? ( https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/issues/466 )
By rhdunn ( https://github.com/rhdunn ) :

Those tables were disabled, and only had code for compiling them in eSpeak.
As such, they did not work, and would not work if re-added.

I like the basic idea, but I want to do it in a more general/robust way.
Specifically, I want to split the speaker (voice) and their accent from the
language and it's accent. For example, you could have a Bavarian German
voice speaking in English with a Southern British English accent.

This would also apply to switched languages.

This is similar to #28 where I want to make the MBROLA voices into proper
voices. Here, instead of having mb-de5-en , you would specify mb-de5 as the
voice and en as the language/accent.

I'm looking at merging it at the moment. Don't worry about any merge conflicts, as I tend to merge locally instead of using the GitHub merge UI.

Because of conflicting changes of dictsource/de_list dictsource/de_rules phsource/ph_german files, we can't know, what to do with changes. Please review highligted differences in uploaded video (at left — previous version of the file, in the middle merged or "to be" version, and at the right your version).

I created configuration files for Haitian Creole. It uses already created ph_haitian file for definition of phonemes. You can adjust sounds as you need, if necessary.

In my opinion, because all of us work on this project only occasionally (i.e. free time) and different time zones, instant exchange of information is not so handy. Therefore currently we mostly cooperate and discuss questions asynchronously through the mailing list.

[espeak-ng:master] New Comment on Issue #458 Musical Intervals for formants
By valdisvi:

You can modify phoneme settings with eSpeak Editor project fork which you have to build yourself (it is described, how to build it on Ubuntu 16.04). But settings of formant frequencies are not (and should not) simple numbers. Human voice is not pipe organ and it is always modulated (both: in amplitude and frequency). Amplitude modulation in spectrum presentation shows up as imprecise frequency ratios making sound beats).
