Thank you Nina, That is a very nice explanation. I will have to review some of what you've written and read up on asayanusaya and tadarammanacitta ("registering" is Bhiku Bhodi's translation).
I finished reading CMA for the second time not long ago and came away with the idea of the conditioning of the bhavanga cittas immediately after the patisanda citta by the javana cittas immediately prior to the cuti citta as establishing a being's character. Clearly this is wrong.
If I have more questions once I study this a bit more, I'll be sure to ask.
