Re: Amateur Diatomist
Well, I have the 4 issues of Vol 1 and would be willing to scan them in and send them to you. You would need to set some parameters for how this should be done as far as resolution, etc.

Re: Amateur Diatomist
Hi Bill,
I could do that. It'll take a bit of time.
It's when you want to do something like digitising the volumes that you wish you had a larger family and they could all do one number

Re: Amateur Diatomist
Steve,
What are the chances that you might digitize all the issues and stick them on one CD? That way people could get the full set.

Re: condensers
Stephen,
Thanks very much for your condenser tutorial andbook recommendation. I am enriched. I tried your experiment of the three stopswith the iris and found that as you say the 90% worked

Diatom Resource DVDs
Hi All,
I've now run out of the Diatom Resource DVDs.
If there's more interest from others then I'll do some more but I want to avoid doing the odd one here and there as it's a bit time

Hello Rob,
I am not familiar with the condensers used on the Labophot, but if it has a dovetail on the bottom, this may be something you could be interested in.

Silicoflagellates, Ebridians, and Actiniscidians
Here are several article links that will help to identify silicoflagellates and their kin in cleaned samples. As always, a picture is worth many words:

Hi David,
Nice web site. I particularly like images of locations as it puts things into perspective in our human sized world.
I'm no longer a scientist, though my formal training was Organic

Raymond,
Looks like you are doing organic synthesis rather than diatom cleaning!
Nice setup.

Here's a photo of the setup that I have been using lately. It is very effective in keeping fumes to a minimum, and whatever fumes do get out are taken away through the opening in the cabinet's

When I first started cleaning samples I used a conical flask, on a tripod, over a bunsen. A 250ml conical flask to be exact. This was in an effort to reduce any potential for spillage and spitting,

Re: Clean Diatoms
Klaus,
I don't think explosion is a problem unless you had a lot of a reducing material in the hot sulfuric acid. Usually the hot sulfuric will do a good job oxidizing most of the easy stuff before

Hi Bill
This question of giving advice is very difficult and we'll have to stress how a moments inattention or just plain mischance can result in very serious injury. I feel the advice is warranted
