Why D4D is a serious rig?
Adam Rong
Folks,
Do you think a 100W SSB commercial rig is a serious one? If yes, let's see why D4D is serious as well. Human ears can hear 6dB-10dB Signal to Noise Ratio when we do SSB QSO. However, FT8 can decode -24dB SNR. It is at least 30dB difference and it will translate to 100W vs. 0.1W. Now D4D can transmit 1W and only half of it will be effective, so it is 0.5W FT8 and it translates to 500W SSB. So, do you think a 500W SSB rig a serious one? It explains why over 9000km QSO can be achieved. Thanks, Adam

Folks,
I will receive all the parts this weekend and will ship a few kits. Please place email order at 12 USD each plus 5 USD each time for shipping. The PCB will be compatible for these applications using a toroid FT-63-43: BALUN 1:1 BALUN 4:1 UNUN 49:1 UNUN 9:1 Thanks, Adam

Folks, Kit Assembly Manual
Draft CRKITS.COM
The Mini Wire Antenna can be used with D4D DSB Transceiver for FT8, HT-1A CW Transceiver and other QRP power level transceivers. It is tiny and light weight. You will need to supply the wire and coaxial cable by yourself since the shipping cost is high. The max OD for wire is 3mm, but it works great for thinner wire.

D4D: Kit Assembly Manual Updated to Rev. C
Adam Rong
Folks,
I have added a few important items in this new revision. Such as: 1. In accessories section, I have added Mini Wire Antenna and other newly added accessories/options. 2. In modifications section, I have highlighted a simpler IMD modification in modification 5. 3. In FAQ, I have added one more Q&A about the possible discussion about the new mode FT8 with DSB transceiver. You can download from here: https://groups.io/g/crkits/files/D4D%20Kit%20Documentations Thanks, Adam

Is there any plans to take out the LPF in the kits and do BPF instead?

Re: BC breakthrough

trent,
sounds like you solved your problem bpf.But before building one, why dont you put the rig in some shielding and build an inline filter before the rig?maybe install some caps to ground? maybe .o1 uf ceramics to ground? i have built mine today and it receives fine. took it mobiling with me i dont have this problem. But they probably dont run the freqs yours does. I physically connected a ground wire to the case of my radio and hooked it up to the nearest ground connection which at home is the 8 ft triad ground rods i have driven into the dirt for other equipment. Not only do i have an antenna ground i have an earth ground too to the case of the radio.it really reduced the noise in my receiver.. I started out with an old johnson viking tube rig with an s38b receiver. :). I ground everything including my wife from my bank account hi hi. one wire with a ring connector or fork if you dont have the ring. or rap the ground wire around the screw and tighten. see if that helps.

Out of town until July 20
Adam Rong
Folks,
I am out of town until July 20. During this period, I can take orders but cannot ship D4D kit or Mini Wire Antenna kit, but I still can arrange shipment for HT-1A, R3500D and 6-60m coil dipole antenna. Appreciate for your understanding. Thanks, Adam

D4D: Go mobile with Raspberry Pi
Adam Rong
Folks,
I suppose you have seen the video "Field Test: D4D and Pi" at my web store http://crkits.com. We Chinese hams have a WeChat discussion group about it and we have achieved several successes putting together this configuration. You will need: 1x D4D radio that you can build by yourself from the kit which you can purchase from http://crkits.com 2x Audio cables come from D4D kit 1x USB sound card that you can purchase from http://crkits.com 1x Raspberry Pi Model 3B or higher with WiFi. In order to get it running, you will need a micro SD card, and a USB power supply cable. LCD display is not needed, as we will use VNC or TeamViewer to remote control by WiFi 1x Li-Ion power bank for both 12V >0.5A (for D4D) and 5V >2.0A (for Pi) output and a DC cable for D4D. If you cannot get it, you can work out your own solution 1x EFHW antenna (you can purchase the Mini Wire Antenna kit from http://crkits.com as it is a perfect match for D4D) or a dipole antenna like 6-60m Coil Dipole Antenna or other antennas you may have on hand 1x Your cell phone with Internet Sharing to your Raspberry Pi Software on Pi: You will need to install WSJT-x Raspberry Pi version. The latest version is wsjtx_2.1.0_armhf.deb If you would like to use JTDX instead, you can try this JTDX v2.0.1-rc138 VNC host is by default installed, but if you find it not compatible, you can try TeamViewer. Remember to start service at power on Setup the WiFi after your cell phone shares the Internet Software on your cell phone: VNC client or TeamViewer client You will need to share your Internet to Pi Please share your experience setting up these hardware and software. Here we Chinese hams love this very much as the whole configuration is so portable. Thanks, Adam

New Record: D4D QSO Distance
Adam Rong
Folks,
Still remember the quarterly contest? Last time the 1st place was BG7IKK. He made a QSO from Guangzhou China to Italy with distance over 9000km. Today he refreshed by a QSO with W4UAT with distance of 11233km. He got report of -19dB! His rig is our D4D 20m and the antenna is an EFHW. You still have chance to win the contest before the deadline of the end of September. Show us your QSO! Thanks, Adam

Hi Adam,
OK thanks so much.
Nice to hear QRPp is still ok for dx.
New QTH is just steps away from the ocean but just to hot now.
When it cools down I will be back on with an end fed running 5 watts.

How would the D4D pair with a 10 watt linear amplifier like the kit offered by QRP Labs? Bryan B. Brauer, PE Consulting Engineer

Re: D4D
Adam Rong
Bryan, It is not recommended as the DSB signal spectrum is not clear due to Inter-Modulation Distortion. It may cause serious adjacent channel interference if you add a PA. Personally I think 1-watt is more than enough for FT8, especially for 20m. BG7IKK already achieved 2 QSO's over 9000km. Thanks, Adam
