Rob,

I don’t get it. It is not hidden layer. It is just covered by solder mask. The interconnection is shown on the silkscreen printing on the top over layer.

Thanks,
Adam

Welllllll  ....yes... its official.... I am not qualified to operate this appliance.

<choccombo.jpg>

I had some Choc Perf Board here that I thought would be good for experimenting with
rotary encoders.

Seemed simple enough.
I had snapped them apart and was playing with just one  of them
and I saw what looked to me like 8 completely isolated pads ....what you see here in the GREEN circle.

Boy was I wrong.
I had soldered a 3 lead rotary encoder into the purple marked pads and added 3 yellow wires to play with GROUND and A and B in the
rotary encoder example sketches.
This failed to get the desired results and kicked this for 2 weeks.... using various encoders......
and then yesterday I used an ohmmeter to figure where I might be shorting out my soldering.
And then found there is a sandwiched layer where the RED and BLUE are.

I don't get it.......
why the hidden layer?
Why not have the traces all connected on the solder side of the board where you can see it?

I like perfboards but have never seen one like the one you used to build your DSB FTB rig.
Any clue on how to find one like that?

Re: The perfboards

Rob <roomberg@...>

It fooled me.

But then again... I have a vision problem. A really bad vision problem.

So I examine everything with 7 diopter glasses.

I looked at the CHOC board and saw GREEN in between SILVER  squares.

Never for a moment considering that rows of silver were shorted together.

so
I ask the question WHY?
Why not have ALL those pads be visibly connected like in this image I edited to show it:

I definitely agree that is a good design to have the multiple rows of perimeter
and the internal groupings.

I have done almost the same exact thing with my proto PCB I kitchen etched.

I often have extra proto pads I add to PCBs in  groups of three.
Looks like an alien army.

Rob,

Good job on your alien army.

The solder mask is used to limit the area of the solder on the pad. I have to admit that the first time users normally will encounter problems but later on they will love it more and more.

Re: D4D: 80m 3.573MHz orderable

Folks,

A brief test to use it as an 80m ARDF transmitter seems promising. Only one hint: Don't set the audio pitch of the audio source too high, because it will increase the bandwidth of IMD.

Adam

Re: D4D: First Shipment

Charlie Vest

Group ,

My 40 meter kit arrived in Northeast Oklahoma in the mail today . I will look at the latest updates from Adam and try to get it up and running today or tomorrow .

This might help Adam get an idea how long it takes for the very center of the USA .

I also have a 30 meter one ordered that shipped with his last shipment .

I think rather quick service compared to many other packages I have ordered from China .

Folks,

I have updated PayPal with all the tracking numbers. Orders on May 18 and later will be shipped next Monday. I shipped by post office with tracking, so you can track it on your local post office web site in a few days. For instance, US guys can track on USPS tracking site at

You can also track on EMS web site in China here:

Normally it will take 10-20 days, so give it some patience and you will get it anyway.

Thanks,
Adam

Folks,

I just shipped three boxes yesterday to my shipping agent and today they will ship to worldwide. The backlog is not cleared so I will ship some more next Monday. After shipping, I will update tracking number in PayPal.

The full manual preview draft is already in the files section. I will take time to improve it this week. You will see a brand new version when you get the kit.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: D4D: First Shipment

Adam Rong

Charlie,

Thanks for the information. Normally it takes 7 days to arrive US West Coast and 14 days to arrive East Coast, so it is within normal range. I am looking forward to your success of building and operating. Also, you are welcome to write review for D4D at:
https://www.eham.net/reviews/addreview/14267

BTW, I cannot access my Gmail mailbox from yesterday. I will figure out a way soon. Meanwhile, you can send email to this group if it is not that private. If you place order, you can directly send payment to PayPal rongxh@... and leave message. I will process accordingly.

The 3rd shipment will be shipped tomorrow.

Thanks,
Adam

Folks,

Camping and operating with D4D. Lots of fun. The 20m version works great.

Beautiful place to be.

Are you using an EFHW antenna ? How did you do ? 20 is pretty good in USA today .

Charlie,

Yes, it is a home brew EFHW. The toroid is FT50-43. I wind 3 turns primary, 21 turns secondary. 100p 100V is added. The cost is very low.

Thanks,
Adam

D4D: Third Shipment

Adam Rong

Folks,

I have just updated tracking numbers for the 3rd shipment. I have cleared all the backlog now.

I have received several messages reporting the receipt of my previous shipments. Please check the parts based on the part list and if you find missing parts, please let me know, so I can arrange shipment next Monday.

The introductory price will end by the end of this month. Starting from July 1, 2019, the shipping fee will be added.

Thanks,
Adam

They had a couple sample units at FDIM in Dayton. When I talked to them, they told me it was in final stages of testing. I think they will not bring the link live when they release the product.
