I like the idea.  Especially being able to connect it to a Raspberry Pi.

Gang,

We are working on a radio kit around 7074kHz USB dedicated for FT-8. Basically it is a crystal controlled KN-Q7A working in USB mode with narrow fine tuning range and high frequency stability. The price will be around 85 USD including shipping. Let me know if you like it.

Thanks,
Adam

Hello Adam,

I'm very much interested in your new FT-8 transceiver, but first I have a question...

Since the FT-8 mode requires setting (and maintaining) a precise operating frequency, unless we used an external frequency counter, how would we tune this transceiver to the exact, correct frequency?

Thank you and 73,

John and all,

Thanks for the interest. I have completed building the first sample, and I have the following data:

Weight: 390 grams
RX current: 22 mA @ 12 volt
TX power: 5 watt PEP @ 12 volt
Tuning range: 7072.2~7076.2 kHz for FT-8 and JT-65 and etc
Working mode: Upper Sided Band only
Passband: 300~3000 Hz
IF filter: 4-pole
Front Panel:
1. Tuning and AF Gain controls, and a red LED for TX status indication
2. Microphone connector: You will need a sound card interface circuit to connect from the microphone connector of this radio to PC, and VOX circuit is not included in this radio. Of course, if you wish to add them internally, you have enough room to do so.

Although I have removed IF amplifier stage, after some other modifications, the sensitivity is good enough for 40-meter band. The frequency stability is quite good as it is a crystal controlled radio with narrow tuning range (using varactor diode tuning without inductor in series, and there is no inductor in BFO either).

To answer your question about tuning, just like other radio without frequency display, listen before talk is very important. You can use the waterfall diagram of the software to make sure you receive at the right frequency. What I can assure you is that the TX frequency is the same as the RX frequency. No, RIT or XIT feature is not included on this radio.

If someone wish to test the radio, contact me off line and I am okay to ship this sample at 100 USD including air shipping.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: CS-40F: Radio for FT-8

All,

I realized that frequency stability and precision is a major concern, so I made a few changes and tests. Now the tuning range is reduced to 7073.7-7074.3 kHz in room temperature at about 16 degree C. It will help easy fine tuning.

I did a test for temperature stability. I use hair dryer to heat the board, and monitor the frequency drift by zero beating a stable signal from the generator. The frequency increased about 130 Hz. It explains why we will need tuning range of a few hundred hertz to tune back. Another concern is the short term stability. To minimize the impact, I reduced power to 5 watt, and 15 sec TX will not generate too much heat. I will measure with high performance frequency counter to make sure.

Thanks,
Adam

FT8 receiver kit on Choc Perfboard

Adam Rong

Gang,

I have been thinking about making a few board kits based on my Choc Perfboard for a while, and now here it is.

Basically it is designed for 20m FT8 frequency 14.074 MHz USB. There is a frequency fine tune and there is volume control. The antenna connector is an audio connector, but it is good for a 5 meter wire antenna for SW receiver. The audio output is mono, for audio connection to PC sound card input or headphone monitoring.

It is stable and you can receive a lot of signals, although it looks very simple. I am offering 5 kits for beta testers at $9.9, including all the parts on the board and the battery holder for 4x AA size batteries. You will be also receiving an audio cable for sound card connection. Of course, the air shipping is also included. Sign up for the beta testers offline.

Thanks,
Adam

Thanks for your interest. You are in and we still have two beta kits remaining. Also, if you are interested in a wire antenna like this, you can add 5 USD.

Thanks,
Adam

Limited Time Offer: R3500D free shipping in May

Adam Rong

Gang,

For the assembled R3500D 80-meter ARDF receiver, you buy from http://crkits.com and you get free shipping in May. That is to say, you get one receiver at 39 USD including air shipping.

The R3500D kit is temporary out of stock but you can purchase from my distributors.

Thanks,
Adam

Efforts to ship faster

Adam Rong

Gang,

I have an over time job and I travel a lot for business. It explains why I ship less often and the average waiting time is long recently.

I made a bit change. I will store a few kits in the warehouse of my shipping agent, so once I receive order, I just give command like “ship parcel A to customer X” and my shipping agent will ship within 24~48 hours.

Currently I have these goods for faster shipping (and the list will change quickly):
FT8 20m receiver kit $9.9 including shipping
FT8 20m receiver kit with antenna $14.9 including shipping
R3500D ARDF receiver (assembled) $39 with free shipping in May
2x choc Perfboards with a metal case $15 each plus $7 shipping

Thanks,
Adam

Something new: HT-1A

Adam Rong

Gang,

This product will be released in about a month. It is designed by the designer of HB-1B and will be sold by crkits and distributors only. Mostly in assembled form, but I will offer a few kits with simple instruction manual in this group. You just need to solder a few through hole parts and I built mine in 2 hours. Let me know if you are interested. Price? Cheaper than the assembled radio.

Thanks,
Adam

Yahoo is not showing the attachments to your post: The email I received indicates that there are two images, but does not actually show them. The post on the Yahoo site also shows an attachment icon, but again, the actual attachments are missing. I am always interested in building something, but would like to know what trouble I am getting into before I commit :)

Thanks for your feedback. Yahoo group is so broken. I will send photos offline and you guys can just leave your email addresses if you are interested.

Photo is here:

This is a 20/40m dual bander, CW transmission only but receives SSB as well in a wide range. RF output is about 5 watts. It has a LCD display and big room for battery and speaker adding by end customers. We encourage building so in the kit form, you will need to solder a few through hole parts on the main board with all the SMD parts pre-mounted. Even for the assembled radio, you will be given a blank PCB to install a LM386 amplifier for speaker if you wish to install a speaker by yourself. This board is also for the installation of a battery pack of 3S 18650 Li-ion. As there is problem to ship battery and speaker, both of them will not be offered along with the kit.

The introductory price for kit will be at 125 USD including shipping, and 150 USD for assembled. They will be about 25 USD higher after it is formally sold. You can place email order now. Kits will be shipped in about 10 days.

Thanks,
Adam
