  • Issue the sudo apt-get install minicom  command
  • Plug in your USB to RS-232 adapter into one of USB ports on the Pi 4
  • Connect the RS-232 plug of the USB to RS-232 adapter to the PE2 
  • Verify that /dev/ttyUSB0 exists once the USB to RS-232 adapter is connected to the Pi4.  You may have to check another device name if /dev/ttyUSB0 is not present
  • Configure minicom by issuing the command minicom -s
  • Configure the serial port and speed using the menu options. Defaults for other options are suitable.  Save the configuration using the default configuration file name
  • Exit minicom and then relaunch minicom program
  • If all is well, you should be able to connect  to the  PE2
  • Verify the XMODEM or YMODEM functionality by issuing the appropriate Elf OS command on the PE2 console such as xr filename 

Bring up the minicom command menu by entering control A and Z

  • Select the appropriate minicom menu item to send or receive a file on the Pi4
  • XMODEM as well as YMODEM are fully supported by minicom
