Re: Club Financial Accounts

Helen,

If you are going down the path of using an accounting system, I would strongly recommend a product called Xero. It is cloud based so easily accessible by those who need to access it (including auditors / accountants who can just log in remotely) and is easy to use.

Happy to talk you through it is if you are interested in further discussion.

Nick.

Hello,

I am on the committee of the Southern Highlands Croquet Club and am seeking information on how other Clubs record their finances and membership lists.

We are currently using Excel and as our membership is increasing the Committee is considering converting to a package such as MYOB.

I would appreciate any information, guidance on systems currently in use at your Club as to what might be an appropriate option.

All assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Helen,

It was only 8 years ago at Maitland that finances was paper based. I took over as treasurer and used excel with then 80 members, we now have 78 members with the treasurer still using Excel. I haven't used MYOB but I myself wouldn't think of using it for a club your size unless someone can demonstrate the benefits.

It is really a matter of how competent your treasurer/secretary is with either method.
Whether you want to save to the cloud or back up on your own computer.

Maybe you can ask Steve Thornton (secretary@...) to send an email to all clubs asking who uses MYOB.

Regards
Wal

Re: Club Financial Accounts

Kaye Martin

Helen, I have used MYOB extensively in the past and agree with a previous opinion that it would not be suitable for a croquet club.

I would recommend Cashflow Manager (cashflow-manager.com.au) which I have also used for many years and am currently doing so, though not for croquet.....yet.

It is extremely user friendly, the data input page looks just like an excel spreadsheet, the reports simple and useful.

Price will no doubt be a consideration. This is $22 p/month unlimited transactions and includes telephone support.  It does not include wages.

I am not familiar with Xero so have no opinion on the programme itself, but it is $30 p/m.

Hope this helps rather than confuses
Regards
Kaye Martin

Helen

I don't feel qualified to recommend wether your club should or shouldn't move from excel. However, if you do move to an accounting package like MYOB then I recommend you use a package that provides internet access and hosting.

The advantages being:

1) your data is automatically backed up

2) there is no software to install or update

3) 1 or more nominated members can access the data

MYOB has internet facilities.

I've heard good things about Xero for accounting. I don't know if it has membership capabilities or not.

Dear Peter
Many thanks indeed for your message.
Sadly I have a conflict and cannot enter.  My daughter is scheduled to have her baby by caesarean section on 7 September in Perth so I will be in the west... hence I cannot enter.
Best of luck to you and Kate.
I look forward  to seeing you both before too long.

Dear Peter,

Thanks for the reminder.  I am in Sydney and have no access to your earlier email.  I have been trying to enter via the ACA website but that is impossible as when you get to the "tournaments" page there is no "2018" to progress further.

However, thanks to your reminder I have successfully entered.

Best Regards,

Tony
PS:  I emailed Rob yesterday to let him know the above but he has not responded.

CNSW Team for the Interstate Shield

The CNSW Board has pleasure in announcing the Golf Croquet Team that will contest the 2018 Interstate Shield for Golf Croquet being held in the Hunter Valley from 12th to 16th September. The Team comprises Alison Sharpe (Captain), Liz Montague, Alix Verge, Brenda Wild, Dave Hanbidge (Vice Captain), Peter Freer, Jamie Gumbrell and John Levick with Kate McLoughlin and Peter Montague as reserves. Peter Montague is also the Team Captain. Members of the team have been practicing hard for the last few weeks and CNSW wishes them every success.

2018 revision to the CNSW Constitution

Most CNSW members will be aware that a revision to the constitution has been underway for a few months and a document was distributed to the clubs last month. This document will need a couple of small additions and rewording of a clause or two to cater for the unexpected answers we received to the questions that we asked clubs as part of the 2018-19 membership renewal process. A new document will be distributed once it has been legally reviewed.

New Rules for Golf Croquet

Players would be aware that the new rules for Golf Croquet are to be introduced by the ACA on 1st January 2019 and the ACA intends to provide a communication on this sometime in the future. The WCF are applying the new rules with immediate effect at all WCF events. The rules and info are available on http://www.worldcroquet.org.uk/index.php/croquet-information/golf-croquet

Steve Thornton
CNSW Secretary

EOI to help CNSW Board

At the discussion forum after the recent AGM the Board indicated that CNSW intended to engage a Sports Development Officer for a period of about 12 months to help the board manage a number of grants, programs and initiatives and interact with clubs on an individual and regional basis. The board has also engaged the services of a Sports Consultancy to assist in the preparation of a Strategic Plan and Business Plan to follow on from our existing plans. Each of these projects requires a reference group and the board is seeking expressions of interest from members who have recruitment experience or who have developed strategic plans to help the board achieve a successful outcome. Please email secretary@... in the first instance.
