When I was first learning to use a computer at Nowra TAFE I was told to put a false address as the first address in my address book such as email@example.com this prevents hackers from accessing the rest of your addresses, it has worked for me.

Sometimes they just steal addresses and send them so you think the email
is from your friends or infiltrate your friends computer and send out to
everyone in their address book.
It pays to have uptodate virus software.
