Light Source app

Does anyone know when the Light Source app will be upgraded for iOS 11?

Thanks,
Michael Banks

Hi Michael,
I’ve sent the new database to the coders with a huge increase in fixtures and hopefully the LEE gel database added, I’ll check in with them today and get back to you.
Unfortunately Light Source comes nowhere close to covering its costs so we’ve been supporting it ourselves since its launch in 2011

Hi James,

More and more people use android phones, and not only iphone.

Do you have in mind developping your app on Android in the future ?

James, I'm sure your app is very helpful and well developed, but the reason you might be having problems covering your costs is that you're charging €32.99 for the app.  That's a lot for an iPhone app, and more than a lot of people are willing to pay.  Obviously, you should charge what you think the market will bear, but I do think you would have more success if you significantly lowered the price.  I do sincerely wish you the best of luck with all of your projects.

I don’t have a problem with it.  In fact I am more than happy to pay for an app that becomes invaluable, and happy to pay an upgrade fee if the information is regularly updated.

Why should an app be any different to any other piece of computer software?

I probably use Pcam, LD and sun seeker as much as I use Microsoft Office - which I was forced to buy for my son to do his homework (whatever the teachers were doing wasn’t translating properly into Pages).

That is F’all for a piece of professional kit.

I think James should be charging at least $100
How much did your meter cost?
How much did your smartphone cost?
How much does a filter cost?

Never mind how much the camera and lenses cost!

The time you can save with this app is huge, it will pay for itself, at $500, in a couple of weeks maximum for any professional.

Thanks James for your generosity in making this app happen. I look forward to using it again soon.

"Lower the price"
The App is aimed at a tiny, niche/specialist market and nowhere near the volume of potential customers/users than consumer products.

Technical development is time consuming and expensive and has to be recouped somehow.

Cost seems extremely reasonable to me for piece of professional kit.

Hi All,
So Scott who does the coding side of things for (he’s an animator in Jam Media, and does the coding in his own time) got back to me yesterday, so we’re going to talk about maybe a temp fix of the present version of Light Source and see how I can bring about the updates I’ve already built to all. On the comments on price thanks to those of you who have shown your appreciation of Light Source, it’s not really about cost its the time required to keep Light Source current and working with IOS changes.
The latest database update took me six full weeks to give some perspective and as I’m a working gaffer (on prep in chilly Limerick, in the west of Ireland) on a Netflix show ‘NightFlyers” thats time that has to be found, and the stumbling block is Scott hasn’t had a chance to recode to 64 Bit. So we’ll do our best I’d love to get the full update out as I’ve inputed a lot of the newer LED units, added almost 35 manufacturers and prepped a LEE gel database so hopefully.
And apologies we have supported Light Source over the last six years and I’d like to think we could do so for IOS 11
