Thanks, Sauleh!

I just wanted to (belatedly) thank ANC Rep Sauleh Siddiqui for helping to resolve an abandoned vehicle issue we were having on our block. We contacted many different agencies and officials while trying to resolve it, and received a different answer from each (no joke -- including "nothing we can do"). We finally turned to Sauleh, who we should have contacted right away because he reached out to someone in the city government and the issue (towing an abandoned vehicle that was parked dangerously) was resolved within a couple of days. We really appreciated it!

It's amazing how so many DC employees don't get training, or even a flow chart, to help them do their jobs. Standard answer is "I don't know. I will connect you to someone." Usually the phone tree.

I had reported a seemingly abandoned out-of-state car on Woodley Rd  (ultimately July thru Dec. 2022), with tickets.

Parking enforcement employee said "maybe they paid the tickets."
Me: " Can you check?"
She: "We have no way of doing that."
Me: "What about getting it towed?"
She: "If they have not paid the tickets."
Me: "How does one find out or do something?!"
She: "Call Rosa. After 10pm."
Me: "Who's Rosa, and do I need a code word?"  Thinking this was secret special ops work, and I don't even have a trench coat or good girl-spy haircut.

Never did get Rosa. Sent a batch of the tickets from windshield to DMV with report on abandonment. No response. Now car has moved to another parking space in the neighborhood. Expired plates, expired visitor parking pass (spring 2022). The car is one of those nondescript Japanese Teflon things. Maybe the owner is rich and pays the sizeable tickets.

To get a vehicle towed call Parks and Recreation DPR Customer Care 202 673-7647. Contact: Michael Tucker. Get a confirmation number.
DDOT does not tow cars. There are 2 towing trucks in city. Hmmm.

DPW hangs up on me or else takes the illegal tag report and doesn’t hit send. There were no records of me calling when I called back another time  The guy who answered and supposed to take report was very out of breath and sounded like he just finished running a marathon. I guess he was working at home.

I called about this neighbor’s car 8 times and nothing was done. I even visited police station and they said they can’t do anything for me.

The car had paper tags that expired 1 year ago. Only 1 temporary tag was on car and the law says there must be 2. They were never required to get a ROSA sticker as I was forced to.

I submitted online requests to DPW and got no response about the illegally tagged car

DC helps who they want to help. They see residents with complaints as “Karen’s”. “Suck it up” is their attitude.

I even went to constituent services and they implied to “suck it up”

I have lived here for 64 yrs. and sadly this is the new normal.
