Looking out our back window, I see a tangle of old phone wires on the pole in the alley between Alton and Albemarle behind our house. It’s certainly ugly, and I wonder if it’s also unsafe. If I complained to Verizon, would they come and remove the excess wires?
I posted earlier about the tangle of old phone wires on the pole in the alley between Alton and Albemarle behind our house. I should have made clear that these are just dangling there on the telephone poles. There is only one wire coming to our house. We have Verizon for our landline service and Comcast for cable TV and Wi-Fi.

- previous message - From previous experience, I've learned that only cable companies will take down old wires, and only their own! Not a job for Pepco or electricians. Cable companies of course dispute whose wires those dead ones are. If you currently have cable, ask your provider if it can clean out the dead ones.
DC should have a law about cable debris, making the installers responsible for removing wires, theirs or whatever is left behind. Wires languishing in every alley and many streets, and people don't know if they are live electricity wires.
My neighbor finally got a ladder and took out the excess cables !

I’m too old to be getting up on a ladder—yeah—I’m one of those despised “OLDS”, and I wouldn’t know which cables/lines were live and might electrocute me.
