ISO: Recommendations on what to do with stair lift no longer needed

Ivy Broder

For the saddest of reasons, only 2 weeks after having a stair lift installed, it is no longer needed. Any suggestions on what to do with it (the company I purchased it from does not buy them back and didn't really have any good suggestions about what to do), I'm not interested in selling it on an online marketplace.

Thanks everyone.

I thought I would take this occasion to repost the list of organizations and the various types of donated goods and equipment they accept. This list was first posted on the Listserv in an Excel spreadsheet on November 3  -- see Message
-- and then reformatted as a .PDF and reposted on the Listserv on November 10 in Message

If you would prefer to read it in MS Word format, go to https://groups.io/g/clevelandpark/files and scroll down the list of files (in alphabetical order) till you get to "Donations List: Who Accepts What," and click on it to open it in MS Word.

I just looked over the list to see if there's a charitable organization that accepts a stair lift, and here's what I found:

Sarah's Circle 2551 17th St, NW #103 DC, www.sarahscircle.org, (202) 332-1400

Medical equipment, home modification items (chair rails, etc), wheelchairs, walkers

When I went to their website at https://www.sarahscircle.org/ I did not see anything specifically about how to donate a stair lift, but as their write-up says they accept "home modification items (chair rails, etc), it seems worth a call to the organization at (202) 332-1400 or use their "contact us" form at https://www.sarahscircle.org/copy-of-contact to ask the question.

Hope this is helpful....and condolences on your loss.

In addition to Iona: https://www.iona.org/get-involved/donate-to-loan-closet/ , you might also try National Rehab Hospital. When folks are discharged, PTs and OTs  prescribe this kind of equipment. Could be someone being sent home soon needs this.
