Litter and trash on corner of 27th and Macomb #trashfreedc

Please do let me know what you learn. We have had several issues that 311 say have been completed but clearly have not and have not a clue how to escalate.

Thank you

Thanks Jenny, I'll let you know what I can find out. I cleaned it up myself twice in the past but I don't want to keep cleaning trash.
Last time it was two full bags and a bunch of metal wires (in the photo).

Hope all is well,
Miguel

I had an issue when DPW had not picked up our trash and recycling for a couple of weeks. Every time I entered a ticket, it would be closed without resolution. I called 311 directly (I'd been entering tickets online) and spoke to a woman who gave me the phone number for the supervisor. I called him and in our discussion we realized he was confusing a neighbor's driveway for ours, so he saw no trash whereas my trash remained. He came by within an hour to pick everything up after our call.

I'm not sure if it's policy to give out a supervisor's number, but it's worth a try. Or there may be confusion on the exact address of the litter. It also seems like some have success by tweeting at DPW online.

Hi Jenny,

Maybe call Mary Cheh’s office and/or local news stations. I’ve had a couple of  311 calls that they said were resolved but in fact not.  They sent me a follow up email survey to ask if it’s resolved to our satisfaction and I said it wasn’t resolved at all. It got fixed but I don’t know if it’s because of that survey or because I called it in again.

311 is pretty useless in my experience. My neighbor, who is absent much of the time, never shovels their walk during snow events. It is particularly a problem because during the day, the melt from their sidewalk flows down hill onto my shoveled walk and turns to ice at night, requiring me to constantly be de-icing. This past winter, I made an online complaint each time it happened. Each time it said it was resolved even though the snow never got shoveled.

From now on, I will just contact Mary Cheh's office. 311 has never worked for me. I reported potholed streets every 2 months for 4 years, to no avail. Mary's office finally made the repairs happen!

I remember it being better a few years ago but starting about 2019, I began consistently receiving notices that the work was done but was never actually completed. If I get a response from Mary Cheh's office, I'll let everyone know.

It’s worth pointing out that Cleveland Park residents are represented by 4 at-large members of the DC Council in addition to Mary Cheh. I got a response from Elissa Silverman’s constituent services staff much faster for a recent problem with a different agency. It probably makes sense to turn first to the Ward 3 representative about conditions on a street in Ward 3, but I wouldn’t hesitate to approach others if resolution is still needed. Maybe anyone closer the workings of the Council knows if particular members are especially appropriate to handle particular matters, based on committee assignments or other factors?

As a follow-up, I have good news. An inspector called me and said they will look into the situation and clean up the corners of 27th and Macomb. I will post an update if they do with a new photo.
Thank you everyone for you comments and suggestions!

Was the extent of the "trash and leaves" just what was shown in the original photo? If so, didn't seem worth calling DC to remove it. Or is trash dumped there a lot, maybe from the gated houses for weekly pickup?

I'm a litter picker upper; if you want errant litter and trash picked up, let me know.

BTW, if 311 is bad now, will statehood improve services?
