Update Re: Lost scared foster dog - still on the run
bonnie roskes
Following up on my lost-dog post from earlier today. She has been spotted by several neighbors, at first in the area of Quebec House and the Broadmoor. After one call I went and found her running up and down Quebec St but she's too fast for me.
I just now heard another sighting west of Connecticut, around Quebec and Rowland, so her radius has increased.
Hopefully she'll get hungry and let someone approach her with food. She seems interested in other animals and has approached a dog and a cat in a friendly way, but is afraid of all people. Other than physically grabbing her, I'm not sure how else she'll be caught.
She's mostly black, has tan markings, and is wearing a harness with red straps. The harness itself is white with some dog cartoons.
Thanks so much to all the helpful neighbors who have called and even tried to catch her.
Bonnie Roskes bonnieroskes @ gmail dot com - original message - My kids took our foster dog to the dog park on Quebec and now we can’t find her. Nobody saw her get out of the fenced area but she seems to have disappeared. There’s a hole near the back that looks big enough for her to squeeze through. She’s about 30 lbs and very skittish and scared - we only got her yesterday. She has a harness but no collar (our fault) and is microchipped. She’s been gentle with us so far. Name is Shay-Lin but doesn’t seem to answer to her name. Any info please call 202-257-6835. Photos below.

Update: Dog safe and back home (was: Re: Loose dog close to 38th & Upton)
timm abendroth
Yes, its my Shiba. Her name is Hana. And she is probably the same one you helped find 2 years ago. Unfortunately, she is an escape artist. We have gotten a little smarter, but she waits for opportunities. This time she slipped off her collar. I got her back with bacon probably 15 minutes after your picture.

When I order HP cartridges, they come with a bag so I can send them back for recycling, which I do. Postage paid, very simple.

Does anyone have feedback (positive or negative) on urologist Dr. Michael Phillips regarding potential surgery to remove a half-dozen kidney stones (located in both kidneys)? (I am not the patient.)
Please respond off-line to me at JKOPFF at AOL dot COM. Thanks. Judy Kopff

I have a nice swatch of black leatherette left over from a re-upholstery project. There is probably enough to recover two bar stools or kitchen chair seats. Or one seat and one chair back. If you are interested, send me a private message and I'll leave it out for you to pick up from my driveway on Idaho.

Re: Loose Shiba Inu dog close to 38th & Upton
Mary Abate
That's a beautiful Shiba Inu. I stuck that breed in the subject line of this reply, so the owner may note that more readily.
Mary - original message - Saw this guy about 10 minutes ago in the parking area of the old Washington Home / Sidwell property. No collar, appears unhurt but seems distressed. Barking a lot and wouldn’t let us approach . I hope someone knows him!

That dog looks like one that lives on Van Ness between the alley just west of 38th Street and the alley behind the apartment building on Wisconsin Avenue. A couple of years ago (pre-COVID), I was able to snag it when I was out with my dog. At that time the dog had a collar and tag. I forget its name, although I remember hearing it referred to has "Houdini" for its prowess at being able to escape a fenced yard. This pup may be up to its old tricks.

Re: ISO moderately priced care for trees and shrubs
Lucie Patton
Bartlett is more expensive but they know their stuff so I use them only for treatments and Adirondack for cutting, trimming type work.
Lucie - original message - We've used Bartlett Tree Experts for some time for backyard tree and shrub care but the latest cost proposal for a modest amount during the coming months seems extremely high. This firm is excellent and we have no complaints about the service. But is there a rival firm that could trim a couple trees and spray a few other growths for reasonable amounts? Am not looking for the cheapest as quality counts. But wondering if there is a good alternative.

Re: ISO Recommendations for Crematorium
Lynn
Montgomery County Hospice told me that the places that the prices are more reasonable at places that only do cremations. Those that also do funerals tend to try to upsell you on additional services. One they recommended (and at least one person I know used them) was Simple Tribute (in Rockville, http://simpletribute.com/ ). When I had my mother cremated the funeral home told me that all local cremations are done at a crematorium in Alexandria. They mentioned this in explaining why it took several weeks to get an appointment. They also said that air quality requirements have made the business costs much higher and whatever businesses used to be local decided not to continue in business rather than invest in new expensive equipment.
If this is the case, the price differences would depend on the price structure of each funeral home. And, please, if someone thinks this information is incorrect, please say so. I'm just passing on what I was told.

They are not in DC, but I found Advent Funeral Home to be very reasonable. 703-241-7402, 7211 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA DC based services were either much more expensive or their customer service was lacking. Note that this was advance planning. I haven’t actually used their services yet.
