ISO dog "Lion" costume

Rachel Fenton

We are looking for a lion costume/wig to fit our large dog (60 lbs). My kids have a school event and would love to dress him up!  He's a young golden doodle and generally LOVES the attention that costumes/bandanas bring [so this isn't harmful and probably helpful for his canine psyche :]).  We'd need it tomorrow (Weds) or Thursday.  Happy to buy or barter (dog treats for your pup?).

Many thanks!

Re: ISO info on auto insurance coverage for totaled car

Geoffrey Barron

Terri,

My car was totaled in early September. I have insurance with Progressive. What they did: They had an assessor determine the condition my car was in before it was damaged. Then, they looked at local dealerships in the area that were selling the same car as mine in the same condition second hand; and what they were selling them for. They based what they offered me on those prices. My car was only a year and a half old.  (Because of the high prices on all cars these days) they actually paid me more than I had paid for it new! I don't know if Geico uses a similar method.

Then, of course, as I had to, you'll have to go out and buy your replacement car at the current inflated prices as well.

My car was totaled and GEICO is covering it. I am wondering if in such a situation they pay the Blue Book price or much less (which I fear)

We’ve been really pleased with CW Termite & Pest Control (301) 549-4976.  Prompt, attentive, personable, and reasonably priced.

I heard a chomping/scratching noise night before last which seemed to be coming from inside the wall facing the front of my house. Not sure how the noise maker got into the house but would like to prevent another sleepless night! If you have had a good experience with a pest control/termite inspection company, please share it with me.

We have a very decrepit alley garage (not attached to the house) that we'd like to make more functional for storage (which might involve some structural shoring up plus considering some basic climate control options). Does anyone have suggestions for contractors who might be willing to tackle and do a good job with this kind of project?

ISO Persian-English conversation partner

Kathleen McGowan

I am hosting a lovely young evacuee from Afghanistan who speaks perfect Persian (Farsi + Dari) and very good English. She is looking for a conversation partner to improve her English while she waits to be able to start work, school, etc. Her schedule is flexible at the moment.

Please let me know if you or someone you know would be interested in improving their Persian through a conversation partner.

Thanks,
Kay

ISO Online kids art classes

Can anyone recommend an online art class for 8 year olds? They did a great course from MICA, but that is not being offered anymore. We are looking for an open ended/divergent thinking approach not: here is how you draw a horse.

Thank you.

Second the recommendation for Erika Schwartz. Drs Lee Firestone and Erin Robles in the same office are also terrific. Between us, my husband and I have been treated by all three at various times. They are at 5530 Wisconsin Ave., Chevy Chase — across from Saks. 301-913-5225.

Re: Question about holiday tipping

Susan McDonald

We also use a cleaning service & I have wondered, too. The service sends 2 or 3 people each time, sometimes the same people but they change from time to time. We just guessed at how to do holiday tips — we didn’t want to just give money to the people who happen to come the last time they clean before Xmas, who could be people we’ve never seen before. What we’ve done is give the owner of the service extra money and ask her to distribute it to those of her employees who cleaned our house a substantial number of times during the year.

If someone has a better system, I’d love to hear it.

Best,
Susan

I should probably know this, but I am using a cleaning service for the first time, and I am wondering if it is customary to tip the people who come out. And if so, how much? In the past I have occasionally hired someone to clean, but it's always just been one or two people who work for themselves. Any advice as to tipping protocol in this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Bonnie,

I use CW Termite and Pest Control - Willie - 301-549-4976. When we bought the house, it had been empty for a while and the kitchen and garage were infested with mice. CW took care of them quickly, although I don't think it was complicated. We have been on a quarterly plan since and had no pest issues for the most part.

Good luck,

Helen

Re: ISO Moderna booster times and locations

Lisa Schumacher

I had luck, without making an appointment, at the Safeway on Sangamore Rd in Bethesda last Friday afternoon, just walking in and asking if I could get the Moderna Booster. It was no muss, no fuss.

I had the paperwork filled out from when I tried to get a walk-in at my local Safeway, at McKinley and Conn., a few days earlier (but they were too busy to do walk-ins that day).

They were friendly and efficient and there were only 3 people in line at the time.

Shlomi Yahanya installed our Tesla charger about 6 months ago; and we have a older home as well. He did a great job, and his prices are very reasonable. Shlomi has done a number of electrical jobs for us over the years. I don’t know if this is the type of thing he does; but you can ask.
We trust him. Our kids went to school together in the neighborhood.
Here’s his phone: 240-247-7214. Recently he also sent me a link to his website, www.yahanaelectric.com, but we always just call him.

Re: ISO Moderna booster times and locations

The GW-MFA vaccination site indicates that it offers Pfizer, J&J (initial and booster) and Moderna (booster). It's walk-in, but you can schedule an appointment just to be certain. They are currently located in the former CitiBank area across 23rd from the hospital. Their clinic site does move now and then so check for their current location before showing up.

See: https://gwdocs.com/patients-visitors/covid-19-updates/covid-19-updates/vaccinations for more information.

Re: ISO Moderna booster times and locations - and QR code for shots

nrgross

I got my first two at Walmart, which does have a method for the patient to get a QR code from the smartphone installed Walmart app. I actually got a QR code but it is currently only for the first 2 shots.

If Michele did or did not get the first two from CVS, does anyone know if going in for the booster shot number 3 can produce a QR code from the last provider? Or is there some other procedure to obtain a QR code that we would need if any in the series shots were from different providers?

Thanks

Neal Gross

I was checking CVS online all through the weekend for appointments, and nothing was available for this coming week. However, last night when I checked the website at about 8:00 pm, the website said something along the line of “we are adding appointment times; please check back later.” At midnight, they released a lot of time slots for certain stores; I was able to get an appointment for tomorrow at the Chevy Chase CVS. So, it appears that periodically they release new times at midnight. A clerk I spoke to earlier said to check early in the morning for new times, which would also probably work for those who aren’t up at midnight. It seems the trick is to catch it on the day that they release the new times.

Constantin Rodousakis, C & A Electric, installed a Tesla wall charger for us. Job involved tunneling from house to garage, etc.....but they did it all easily.
