A fresh idea to get the vax-resistant vaxed #blog #satire

Hi again neighbors, and happy nearly almost autumn.

I know how much you've been longing -- even keening, nay, weeping and rending garments in agony -- for another remarkably/hilariously trenchant Medium post from me.

And so, back again from unpopular not demand, here you go, my latest.  Read it and weep:

Thanks again for reading/for not reading!

FREE Cooking Demo this Wed 9/15 at 3pm with Woodley Park's Bistro Bites

Frank Finamore

Cleveland & Woodley Park Village is partnering with another local, small business to give you a free behind-the-scenes glimpse of the business. It will be held via Zoom so you can watch from the comfort of your home! On Wednesday at 3pm, we will feature new local restaurant Bistro Bites, (2623 Connecticut Ave NW) which brings together the flavors of two native cuisines: French and South Indian, which have evolved 5,000 miles apart but share long and tasty traditions. Bistro Bites features French-inspired sweet and savory crepes; along with rice and daal (black lentils) for the “crêpes de fusion” that represent their interpretation of the dosa-based recipes of southern India.

Be sure to reserve your seat today! This event is free and open to the public. Register here to receive secure login information via email.

I encourage you to visit or order from Bistro Bites and you’ll get to taste what you’ve seen their chef demonstrate.  This is a great, simple, and fun way to support our business community.

Re: Norton Lifelock a scam?

Rich Manegio

Hi Catherine,

I used to work at NortonLifelock and can assure you they are a highly reputable company.

Having said that, you may be experiencing a fraudulent player impersonating a legitimate company to perpetuate a scam. Scammers would use our branding to trick people into nefarious downloads, signing up for fraudulent services, perpetuating identify theft, etc.

DO NOT click on any links in emails or texts you may have received.

Instead, highly recommend navigating directly to the company’s official website and contacting NortonLifelock support directly – here’s the link:
https://us.norton.com/

Best,
Rich

A friend suggested I use this app for security. I signed on to the cheapest plan, and immediately started having problems logging into sites— endless loops of ‘I am not a robot” (I swear, I am not! Or last time I checked anyway…)
So after a day of this, I ‘cancelled’ my subscription. Two minutes later I got a “subscription renewal notice, telling me I had just renewed at the premium price of $156 & the amount was ‘successfully debited” from my bank account— and of course, if I wanted a refund I should click, or call….   Enough misplaced prepositions in this notice to set off the grammar police—so I did nothing —but did check my account & no such transaction noted. AARP endorses this lousy site?
Wondering if anyone else has had problems? Just hoping my cancel subscription did go through, and I have deleted the app on all my devices.

ISO someone for flood mitigation

Hi Neighbors,

I’m in search of a contractor who can evaluate what sort of flood prevention is warranted. I talked with an architect who encouraged me to talk to a contractor about putting in interior drain tile - with waterproofing on the walls from the inside and a sump pump inside.

I am looking for a honest, fair contractor who is knowledgeable these things. I would be most appreciative of any recommendations you might have. I am only interested in people with whom you have direct experience.

Many thanks,
Lynn

ISO large backyard trampoline

Valerie Haselton

Anyone got a large trampoline in your backyard that the kids aren't using anymore? We have a 10x17 trampoline that our kids still love but a branch took out one side of the netting in May. I called for a replacement and was told to try again in Sept. Just got off the phone with the company and they now say I need to wait until sometime next year!! It seems so stupid to buy a new trampoline just because we can't get our netting repaired (and I don't see how it can be repaired based on the way it ripped) but if someone has one not being used, we're apparently in the market for another one.

Thanks,
Valerie

How to donate like-new kids games and toys to Afghan refugees?

Monica Pinzon

Where can I donate like-new kids games and toys to Afghan refugees? Same for clothes in excellent condition for both kids and adults?

Monica

---------
Editor's note: Before anyone sends in suggestions for the local aid organizations, PLEASE check their donation guidelines to be sure they are accepting toys and clothing. I looked up several previously posted messages recommending donation to organizations working with refugees, but when I went to those websites, I found only instructions to contribute funds or gift cards, and in some cases, instructions to drop off large pieces of furniture. For example The Lutheran Social Services website says this:
"We regret that at this time we don’t have the capacity to accept any used items. We also cannot currently accept clothing, furniture, food, toys, or books [emphasis added]. We are grateful for any contributions you can make from the list above or through our Amazon Wish List.  This will allow us to offer our Afghan Allies a warm welcome and provide them with the items they need most. Thank you!"

Can anyone tell what these markers mean?

ann.marie@...

Are any of the neighbors familiar with where I could learn the meaning of these markers which seem to include part of the public alley? Two sets appeared this morning on either side of the rear driveway of an unoccupied house.

Thanks in advance for helping translate or pointing me towards a link to translate the meaning.

ISO: Nanny recommendations - Dec/Jan Start

helen.eisner@...

If you happen to have a wonderful nanny and your family will be transitioning to school or a new location around the new year, we’d love to hear from you. We are starting to search for a full-time, single household, nanny to help our family for the next several years and to take care of our five-month-old son. The start date, which is somewhat negotiable with the prior family’s flexibility, would be between mid December and early January. Our preference is to work with someone leaving another long-term placement, and at this point we're only looking for recommendations directly from families. Before starting the traditional search process, we wanted to reach out to our neighbors.

Thank you!
