Knife and Tool Sharpening Service

Julian Cunningham

Hello,

My name is Julian Cunningham, and I am a local college student. For the last few years I have been sharpening knives and tools for people in the neighborhood with great success and customer satisfaction.

I am once again offering my knife and tool sharpening service for people in the neighborhood from June 14-18 before I leave town. I can sharpen just about anything. In the past I have sharpened kitchen knives, scissors, garden shears, clippers, lawn mower blades (for both electric and push mowers), and much more.

I charge $2 per inch of blade for sharpening non-serrated knives and tools(scissors, garden tools, etc.). Serrated knives are $2.50 per inch of blade. Please note that because tools like scissors and shears have 2 blades, I charge $2 per inch, per blade.

If you are looking to get a knife or tool repaired or restored send me an email [JCC.cutlery@... - JCC.cutlery @ gmail dot com], let me know what’s wrong with it and I’ll give you an estimate. I can repair most knives and tools so feel free to reach out.

You can leave the knives and tools that you need sharpened on my porch in the box labelled "JCC Cutlery pickup / dropoff". Be sure to text or email me after you drop off the knives so that I can take them in. I ask that you wrap your knives securely in a cloth or paper towel and put them in a bag with your name and number on it.

Turnaround time: I often can get knives sharpened within 24 hours of dropoff, but sharpening may take up to 3 days.

For payment I accept cash, check, PayPal, or Venmo. I will bill you via email when your knives are done. Please be sure to let me know when you’d like to pick up your knives and tools so that I can leave your items on the porch for you to pick up. If you are paying with cash or check, put the money in an envelope and stick it through the mail slot.

If you are interested, please send me an email so that I can send you my contact info and address. Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Julian Cunningham

Is the L1 bus gone for good?

Eric Rubin

Just wondering if anyone knows whether the L1 bus (Chevy Chase Circle to Potomac Park, rush hour only) will be restored as Metro resumes regular bus service. I was a regular user (it took me practically door to door from home to work) and it has been sorely missed.

Re: Problems with DC Portal to access COVID-19 vaccination records

Karen M. Schneebaum

The portal is odd. It had only one of my COVID shots but it had a tetanus shot from 1967 when I was a freshman in college in Ohio and hadn't even met my husband so my last name was different. Whatever.

- original message -
On May 3, 2021, DC Health announced the launch of DC MyIR, a web-based portal that is intended to give District residents secure, easy, and free access to their official COVID-19 vaccination records. The portal, found at https://dchealth.dc.gov/page/dc-myir is designed to allow users to view and print official copies of their vaccination records, and their dependents’ records, at any time. The announcement indicated that if anyone experienced problems accessing their COVID-19 vaccination records in MyIR, then they should check with their vaccine provider to ensure their information is correct and to update the records.

Shortly after the announcement, I opened an account on the website. Shortly thereafter, I was informed that there was no match in the system and therefore, no records for me to access. I contacted my vaccine provider, Safeway, which provided proof that in fact, my records were property provided to both DC Health and DC MyIR. After numerous emails and phone calls to DC Health and DC MyIR over the last several weeks, I am still unable to access my records. On Tuesday, I received an email from DC MyIR falsely claiming that the problem was fixed and that I could now see my records. As a result, yesterday, I contacted Councilmember Mary Cheh's office to look into this issue.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with DC MyIR and has anyone been successful in resolving them? So far, this has been a massive waste of my time (and perhaps DC tax dollars) for a system that is not working at all (at least for me).

Free and for sale: various bags and a window shade for the car

Guisou

Hi neighbors,
We are parting with the following items-

Free:
High Sierra backpack embroidered with “University of Florida MBA programs.” Needs a good washing! Was pulled out of storage and dusted off recently for a trip, but it’s still a bit dusty.
Munchkin Brica window sun shade. Works great but ended up being too small for the passenger window in our SUV. Like this, but includes only one (not a pair)

For sale:
Large diaper bag (backpack style) used for about a year but still in very good shape. It did not come with a changing pad but did come with stroller hooks which I still have. See full details here (but note the color is grey and black not grey and pink like this one) $20

For sale:
Ozark Trail cooler with expandable top, gently used, in good condition. 24-can size. Lots of zippers and pockets to hold picnic items! Worked fine for keeping things cool but we recently got a backpack style cooler and no longer use this one. Soft shell bag with a hard plastic insert that can be washed and wiped down. Like this but bigger $10

Reminder: Cleveland Park Yard Sale Sat., June 12 (9AM-2PM) - my house, too

Judy Kopff

I have not seen any reminders on the Cleveland Park ListServ about the big Cleveland Park Yard Sale on Saturday, June 12, from 9 AM to 2 PM so here is my reminder.

The weather is expected to be cloudy but not rainy.

I am one of the neighbors participating in this Yard Sale. The first one was a big success two years ago.

Here is the website for the yard sale, showing all the locations of people having individual yard sales in the neighborhood:  https://www.districtbridges.org/cpyardsale/

I hope to see you at my front porch this Saturday, June 12, at
2939 Newark Street, NW, which is about 400 feet from Connecticut Avenue and around the corner from the Uptown Movie Theater.  You will need to walk up about 25 steps from the street, but I assure you, it will be worth it. (See attached photo of my house.)

I plan to sell:

— jewelry (for women and children) -- watches, necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, scarf pins, button covers, and so forth;
— women's designer scarves, pocket handkerchiefs, hats, belts, and handbags;
— beautiful, jeweled marionettes (large and small) that I bought in Thailand;
— various knick-knacks from our travels (including a very large brass lobster I bought in Thailand);
—  dozens of antique glass bottles suitable for holding beads and other crafts;
— lots of foil balloons with strings and balloon weights, as well as bags of 100 latex balloons (leftovers from our volunteer activities as hospital clowns),
— women's designer sweaters (size medium and large),
— and more.

See you on Saturday!
