I agree with Mark. Capture the fin tabs.

I say capture the fin tabs, so I would prefer the second one on top of the fin tab, if you don't have an option for 3.

Taking a pole.

I know what I want to do. This is just for discussion, especially for the newer flyers who may be wanting to get into more mid-high power flying. (Chris will like that!)

This rocket uses a Loc 5.5 in airframe with a 38 mm MMT and will fly H-J motors.
I have only 2 centering rings. Adding a 3 ring is not an option.

Do you like:
1: the forward ring in the most forward position at leading fin tip
or
2: on top of the TTW fin tab?

The other will of course, will be located behind the fin tab.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Centering Ring Placement

Kevin A

I would think at the top of the TTW fin tab would give the best support... But how far past that point does the MMT extend?

If that ring is not at least slightly past the midpoint of the MMT, I'd be looking at other options... Perhaps some shims at the leading end of the MMT tube vs a full ring?

Just my noob thoughts.

Cheers,
Kevin

Thank you Mark.
And I just noticed my misspelled word.  Poll, not pole.

Yes, capture the fin tabs between the two centering rings.  It makes for a stronger system.  I like to build mine from the front back.  This allows me to get a solid glue connection between the centering rings and the fin tabs.

Well, weather permitting, we have a launch the 12th. And, I have a FSI E60-6 that you have me. I built a rocket for the 2 that you gave me, I call it "Kaboom". I flew it at that last launch, it didn't kaboom.

Re: Ordering CIA name tags

Jonathan Sivier

At the moment we don't have a method of online payment. We will try to put some info about membership on the web site soon. An online payment option may take a bit longer.

Dues are $10 per year, plus $2 for each additional family member. If you are interested in joining the CIA you can catch me at the next launch and pay with cash or check or you can mail a check made out to Central Illinois Aerospace (or CIA) to

Jonathan Sivier

If are already a member and you are uncertain if you owe dues for this year or not, send me an email.

reminder to order your GARLO shirts soon

Jonathan Sivier

GARLO is less than 3 weeks away, so it is time to order your GARLO t-shirts. We will need to place the order with the printer in a little over a week from now. We'll have a few extra shirts to sell at GARLO, but if you want to be sure you get one or need a particular size place your order now. The shirts will be a medium blue with a design based on the parachute used by the Mars Perseverance lander earlier this year. The design is still be worked on. Once it is finished we will be able to show what the finished shirts will look like, but at the moment you have to use your imagination.

The price will be $15 per shirt. This is the same price as in the past. We should be able to get just about any adult or youth sizes.

To place your order send me an email to <jsivier@...> or see me at the launch next Saturday. Be sure to specify the number of shirts you want and the size(s). You can pay for them when you pick them up at GARLO.

24mm Q Jets

AeroTech/Quest has just released two new 24mm Q Jets motors. The same
size as an Estes D12, they are a 19.3 newton-second D22W, and a 27.9
newton-second E26. Both come is 4,7 and 10 second delays. The retail
price is $11.99 of two D22's, and $15.99 for two E26's. I can get these,
and all of the Quest products for my usual discount.
