Re: Outlook for Saturday launch

I was out and about this afternoon, and cruised by the park, does the name "The Great dismal Swamp" sound familiar? All the lower laying areas have standing water, and it hasn't started to rain yet.

Greg Smith wrote:

I can describe the chances for holding our scheduled launch on
Saturday, December 27 no better than by quoting the official forecast:

-----

Saturday
Dense fog advisory in effect until 4 am CST Saturday...
Flash Flood Watch in effect from 6 am CST Saturday through Saturday evening...

Occasional showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall
possible. Not as cool. Highs in the lower 60s. Windy. South winds 20
to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph. Chance of precipitation near
100 percent.

-----

So as long as the wind, rain, fog and floods don't stop us, we can
enjoy an unseasonably warm December day. :-)

Obviously, I think the chances of launching are pretty dismal. I'll
post my usual final announcement about 11 AM tomorrow, but I don't
think you need to hold your breath about what it might say.

You can call me at 217-840-1678 as usual for information.

2009 CIA Calendar

Greg Smith

Here is the official (as of this moment) CIA events calendar for 2009. This has been reviewed by the board and we believe everything is accurate -- but special events do come up, and weather and personnel factors sometimes require us to move or cancel events. So stay tuned to this list and the CIA website for future announcements.

Notes for 2009:

1. The launch schedule for January and April is not the usual 2nd and 4th Saturdays -- there are extra events during those months that required moving one of the launches.

2. Currently, we plan to hold both March launches at the Flessner's farm field south of Flatville. Both April launches will be at Rantoul, and all three (that's right, three) November launches will be at Flatville.

3. Some of the meeting topics and all of the contest events are still undecided, and may change. The dates should be correct, however.

-----

CENTRAL ILLINOIS AEROSPACE 2009 MASTER CALENDAR

This calendar is intended for CIA internal planning only. Events
may be added, deleted or changed without notice. Changes will be
announced on the CIA electronic mailing list and web site.
Launches may be cancelled due to bad weather. Before attending
any event listed here, contact Greg Smith, Director of
Operations, at (217) 840-1678, or e-mail gregs@... for
the latest weather information or schedule changes.

Regularly scheduled events are normally held each month as
follows:

1st Tuesday: Membership meeting at Springer Cultural
Center, 301 N. Randolph St., Champaign, or special
events elsewhere.

3rd Tuesday: Business meeting at Village Inn Pizza Parlor,
1801 W. Springfield Ave., Champaign.

2nd Saturday: Rocket launch at Pick Dodds Park, 2200 W.
Bradley Ave., Champaign. Rockets are limited to
4,000' MSL (~3,250' AGL) altitude and "H" motor
impulse by FAA waiver and site dimension
restrictions.

4th Saturday: Rocket launch at Dodds Park. High power
launches may be held at the Rantoul Aviation
Center or the Flessner farm near Flatville in the
spring and fall with up to a 10,000' waiver.

We have the list set up to remove attachments. However there is a way to upload pictures to the site and make them available to list members. We also have our club Smugmug site where we have a large number of pictures taken by club members of various rocketry activities. So the best way to share a picture with the list is to place it somewhere on the web and send a note to the list with a link.

the Oracle. There are no drivers for the Oracle, just a program.

Not the problem. My computer has the old USB and the new.
When I purchased my MB it had the older USB then I had to
add a new IO Board just for the faster 2.0. I even get a cookie
warning-message every time I plug a faster item into the older
port say "this device can operate faster" but the quirk is that
the computer itself can't. At least not without the new IO Board.

It will still give me the same message about needing drivers
that are not available in both the older and newer USB.

Like I said it's a Window's problem and it won't get solved.

Anyone want to buy my Oracle?

the USB 2.0 incompatibility is intriguing and may be an issue with

The next edition of the Informant, the CIA newsletter, is being printed and will be mailed out to all members soon. Given the upcoming holidays it may happen that they won't all get mailed until after the new year, but they will be on their way as soon as possible.

It is also time for CIA members to renew their memberships and pay their annual dues. Dues are the same as in the past, $10 for an individual and $2 for each additional family member. I will be including a reminder with the newsletters when they are mailed, but in the meantime anyone who would like to pay their dues can catch me at the next meeting or make a check out to Central Illinois Aerospace and mail it to me at

There at the front door they have two Estes Oracle video rockets for

seems to show they are still generally selling for $105+ so it seems

I got one and can't use it.

Re: Oracle for sale

Jeff Deem

After reading your comments on oracle and windows xp, I decided I better Try installing it on my xp computer before bagging my Pentium 2 HP Win 98 computer. I used the provided cd and followed the Estes instructions to the letter, The first thing that popped up was an "install drivers" or "browse" screen, I installed said drivers, and all following screens proceeded as in my copy of the instructions. As instructed I kept the cd in till I connected the camera. It works fine. I have windows xp home edition. Perhaps the problem has to do with permissions and the like or security in the office edition.

If by chance you no longer have the instructions, both they and the drivers, they can be found here:
http://www.estesrockets.com/assets/downloads/

I hope this helps,

Jeff

p.s.- there do not seem to be any vista drivers, And my understanding is that the astrovision will not work with vista period so probably oracle won't either

William

Not sure if this link will help, since it applies to Astrovision, but
the USB 2.0 incompatibility is intriguing and may be an issue with
Oracle.

Not surprising with Windows. With my XP Pro the software will load
but when you plug in the camera it calls for drivers. Since there is
no drivers it won't work. No idea how to get around it.
