Tricolored Blackbird colony in Woodland

Brent Campos

Yesterday Kristin Sesser and I found a Tricolored Blackbird colony in the field just south of the Woodland Community College. The birds are nesting in a thick tangle of mustard and thistle. Red-Winged Blackbirds are also nesting in the field. The colony is in an accessible location with easy views from the southern edge of the college property. We observed many food carries to fledged young, so I don't expect the colony to be active for much longer.
