Semipalmated Sandpiper, Yolo Co, 2012-08-14

Brent Campos

At Farmers Central Pond this evening, peep, dowitcher, and yellowleg numbers were about double their Saturday abundances. This may reflect an increase in exposed mudflats at this location, although the amount of habitat is still relatively small. A list of shorebird species present can be found below. A juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper was the highlight of the evening. Both Western and Least Sandpipers were represented by individuals in well-worn alternate and juvenile plumages.

Shorebird species detected:
American Avocet
Black-necked Stilt
Greater Yellowlegs
Western Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Long-billed Dowitcher
