Hi Ryan and others,

I read all the podcast and some of them really made me think. I can’t wait to hear your review of the Blindalive product. I’ve downloaded their app and have a few of their work outs. The explanations are very clear and I kind of enjoy using them sometimes although I get bored if I always use the same work out track too many times. And I’m not knowlegable enough on the subject to vary my exercises on my own.

Karine,
Thanks for the email.
I too have downloaded the app and have listened to a handful of them.
Some initial thoughts (which i think i covered in one of my earlier podcasts but will put out there again).
…..

a)i have heard wonderful things on how blind/VI use the workouts
-I always am a tad concerned with a generic online workout, as if ever someone is unclear on how to do the activity and is potentially doing it wrong, there could be injury
-workouts often stress you to “push harder, go faster”…and if you are aware of proper form and how to make  sure you are being safe, then this is perfectly great.  However if you are “pushing harder” while doing a poor technique, this could be dangerous.
-As you mentioned, you can get bored by following the same thing over and over…

These are all things I will be working on in the next little while….
-creating exercise specific demonstration videos, to explain how to know if you are doing it properly or not
-giving you ideas on how to vary the activity and to put a workout together, so you can mix it up and feel confident you are getting what you need
-I will create workouts of the week, and explain them thoroughly, and you can do them at your own pace.

BlindAlive and other online workout certainly have been a huge success and I can’t say they are a bad thing in any way, as they have been very successful for some people.

However as a Kinesiologist, there are things that I am not a “fan” of …and I will try and give you a different approach.

For now the best advice is:

a) always think safety first, if you are unsure of an exercise motion, stop and listen again
b) sharp/stabbing/ripping type pain is NEVER something to push though, so make surrey are understanding how to do the exercise right
c)if you encounter an exercise in the app that you just can’t seem to understand, let me know and i’ll be happy to help  you out!
d)DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU  AND WHAT MOTIVATES YOU!

If BlindAlive is successful for you, great!!!  If you want/need more information, instruction, variation, then that is what i’m here for.

hope this helps a bit?

Being a little late, I listened to podcast 12b and 14 this afternoon.

I suppose that in podcast 12b , you’re talking about the Eyesfree Fitness app? I’m asking because you’ve been naming Seeing Eye app all along.

I also listened to podcast 14 and I really enjoyed that interview section.

Check out the newest podcast I just put up.  I will correct the "eyes free" blunder on the next show..

CVICC coverage

CCB Health & Fitness

Hey all, i’m super excited to let you know that next week i’ll be trying my best to provide some behind the scenes coverage of the CANADIAN VISUALLY IMPAIRED CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

These will be held all next week in Ottawa and I’m fortune enough to be participating as part of Team Ontario.

In my down time I’m hoping to capture some sights and sounds of the week and posting it on FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, TWITTER and our PODCAST.

So, if you are already following any of those, awesome!!  If not, i’d suggest Facebook and Podcast accounts for our CCB Health & Fitness program would be your best bet to follow.

If you need any help accessing them, let me know.

If you have any questions for the curlers your wish to to pose, let me know

If there is any specific coverage you want to see, let me know and i’ll try my best.

It’s a great chance to showcase the CCB, blind curling and gather stories and interviews with some of the 35 or so curlers in attendance.

Should be a fun time!!

Yes not a problem, there really is no “sign up”...more just participation by submitting your distances.

You can submit distances thus far, then again at the end of the month if you like?

That would be awesome!!!!

Good morning Markus.

Yes, it is good to stick with it.
I am working out at the gym almost everyday, pumping weights, running on the treadmill, spinning my spin bikes, doing regular situps.
I am lucky that my local fitness gym is only 2 blocks away from my place.
I can get there, easily with my long cane, all year around, even in snowstorms.

Can you describe your fitness routine?
Is your gym nearby, easy to walk to?
Do you know the gym owner well?

Yes not a problem, there really is no “sign up”...more just participation by submitting your distances.

You can submit distances thus far, then again at the end of the month if you like?

That would be awesome!!!!

Hey Ryan, I didn't sign up for the cross country challenge, and we've
walked a few times this month. Can we send in our distances?

HEY everyone, just a quick update on how things are progressing with
our Cross Country Challenge.

With just about 2 weeks to go, we are at around 3600km and just 2900 to go!!

Make sure you submit your weekly (or monthly at the end of the month
if you
choose) totals to me.

Walking kilometres or if you just keep track of total minutes
exercised I will convert them into distance for you.

We are getting close!!

Lots of new interesting podcasts being put up so take a listen!!!

Cheers,
