2nd Notice: Pls Resubscribe; Verizon DELETING Yahoo Groups Dec 15 (BilltownDance)

1. Yehoo ‘BilltownDance’ Group Being Deleted:   
    Verizon is DELETING all the Yahoo groups on Dec 15 — see below image that was sent to you in the Oct. 27 message.

    Only about 40 of the 326 members of the “BilltownDance” Yahoo group responded to the “invitation" that I sent about a month ago.

    REQUEST:  Please consider “subscribing” yourself to the NEW “replacement” group, at groups .io .

    • REASON:  The more people we can get to subscribe, the more that the dance CLASS organizers and dance organizers, will be motivated to email us announcements for their events.



    2. To Subscribe Yourself to the NEW Group:   
    • (1) Send a 'blank' email (no subject nor body necessary) to    billtowndance+subscribe@groups.io  ,
    •  
    • (2) then just REPLY to the  "Confirm Your Groups .io Subscription” 'request for confirmation” email — that Groups .io will send you.
      • (Just hit the Reply button, no typing required)



    3. FYI:

    The first link at the top of the BilltownDance.com    web page, ALSO gives you to the “subscribing" information.

    The “subscribe” process works the same way the Yahoo groups worked, and you can “unsubscribe” yourself in a similar manner.

    NOTE:  If you’re getting a 2nd copy of this email with the subject tag “[BilltownDance]io", that means that you are ALREADY a member of the new group, and you can ignore this email.

    3. Verizon Will Delete All Yahoo Groups Dec 15,2020

    On Monday Oct. 12, 2020, Verizon informed us that it will complete its trashing of Yahoo groups -- by totally DELETING them all  on Dec. 15, 2020.

    See the notice on the following image, where the red arrow at the top is pointing.

    If any of the Announcers want to send any messages, make sure you do so BEFORE Dec. 15.

    I want to THANK all 326 members for having been part of this Yahoo [BilltownDance] group, that sends Ballroom & Swing Dance news for North Central Pennsylvania.


    • Note:  This problem created by Verizon destroying the Yahoo Groups, will not affect any messages that BIll Mahoney sends you directly, since Bill uses the “Mailchimp” program — which is separate from Verizon, so Verizon can’t mess up THAT system.

    4. New Group Has Been Created:

    The new PUBLIC group is at  https://groups.io/g/billtowndance 
    • The groups .io work very similar to the Yahoo groups.
    • The same guy that designed Yahoo groups before Yahoo bought them, Mark Fletcher, designed groups .io.
    For Announcers:
    • I will encourage all ANNOUNCERS to join this group, and send a copy of their announcements to this group.
    • The group will STORE your announcements on a PUBLIC web page.
    • People will be able to view your announcements — weeks or months after you have sent them.


    5. Viewing Messages on the Groups .io Page:

    There is a "Messages" link on the upper left corner of the Groups .io home page.
    Clicking that "Messages"  link will take you to the page  https://groups.io/g/billtowndance/topics   , where ANYONE can browse the announcements — even WEEKS later than when it was sent.

    Note there are several test messages that you can view.

    You do NOT need to be a member of the group, to VIEW the announcements on the web page.

    But if you want to RECEIVE the announcements by email, you WILL need to be a member (same as with Yahoo).

    Announcers:
     To be an ANNOUNCER who can SEND messages to the group, you’ll need to get “posting privileges”.
