I'm the opposite. I will read an occasional western, but I don't like the ones about the old west. I like them to have some connection to modern times. Pam.

I liked "The Haunted Mesa" and "The Walking Drum" myself. I'm not really a big fan of range war, clean up fort dodge style westerns. I like reading about pioneers settling new territory and stuff like that.

Ashley, Louis LAmour writes mostly westerns with a few historical novels
thrown in. I'm not a big fan of westerns: however, he writes very well
and with simplicity. My 2 favorite books by him are "Shane" and "The
Last of the Breed", a historical adventure which takes place in Eskimo
country.
