Hi Everyone. I'm trying to install the free 60-day trial of Reaper for Windows (64-bit) on my laptop. However, whether I allow it to install to the default Program Files folder or edit the folder path so that it reads Program Files (X86), I'm finding that it claims to install correctly but doesn't create a Start Menu or Desktop icon for future use and I'm therefore unable to open the software. I've noticed that there are some questions requiring yes or no answers during the installation, and for some reason Jaws 14.0 doesn't read these or announce whether or not the check boxes for items such as the aforementioned icons are selected or not, so I've got no way of knowing exactly what I'm installing. I've already installed the Jaws scripts for Reaper, and I assume that I should install the program before adding Osara, so I assume that inaccessibility isn't strictly the cause of these problems (although, as I say, the lack of clarity regarding the highlighting of tick boxes is unhelpful). Can anyone please advise on how to get everything installed correctly? Also, I'd appreciate recommendations for any suitable tutorials/email lists/Facebook groups/etc., especially as the company's user guide appears to be an inaccessible PDF. Many thanks in advance for any help.
Take care, Danny

Punt JAWS. Reaper is made for NVDA. Your JAWS is already quite long in the tooth, NVDA is free, so you'll always be up to date with it. If you don't know how to use NVDA, now is the perfect time to remedy that.

Hello Danny, Can you not use windows explorer and find the executable file? Or if you hit the start button and type reaper what happens? Did you know about the audio ins and outs course? http://wiki.cucat.org/index.php/Main/AudioInsAndOutsHTH Gena On 26 Sep 2019, at 10:25, Danny Miles <toptunesdanny@...> wrote:

Hi Georgina. Many thanks for your reply.
I'm saving the executable file and then running it, so I haven't got a problem with finding the set-up file. The issue I'm having is that, once it's apparently been successfully installed, using the search bar attached to the Start Menu or looking in Windows Explorer doesn't aid me in finding the program so that I can open it and use it. If this can be done using the executable file, I've never heard of this before and would appreciate further info.
I think that course has been mentioned on here a few times but, as I've only become interested in Reaper in the last week or so, I've never fully taken in any talk about using it before. Thanks very much for the link...I'll be sure to investigate.
Take care, Danny

Hello Danny, Shortcuts are just links to all the program files via the executable. So if you have successfully installed in program files x86 reaper then navigate to that folder and find the executable. Not many programs run from an isolated .exe file. Reaper is very versatile you can even use portable installs.. In other words, it is not a program that throws it’s files in many different folders all over the HD. Have you tried installing the OSARA package? Gena On 26 Sep 2019, at 14:55, Danny Miles <toptunesdanny@...> wrote:

Hi again. Many thanks for that suggestion and for outlining how it works. I ran a portable installation and, because it confirmed the folder path, I better understood what you were saying and managed to trace the .exe file for opening the program. I've never opened a program that way before...I've only done it from a Start Menu icon or from the search bar. Anyway, I've got it now, so your help is much appreciated.
Regarding Osara, I was under the impression that I should install the program first, so I haven't grabbed that yet. I have installed the Jaws scripts...Would it still be advisable to install Osara as well?
Take care, Danny

Hello danny, I think you should start working through the audio ins and outs. The members of the class who used Jaws still needed OSARA a as it installs a keymap that otherwise essential elements are very difficult to get to or not accessible at all. You also need the SWS plug-in again bringing more access. You do know you can create a shortcut manually, just use the applications key. I only suggested the OSARA installation as it would have verified a Reaper install. HTH On 27 Sep 2019, at 20:08, Danny Miles <toptunesdanny@...> wrote:
